I've encountered a few odd things in my last patrol.

1.After a few dissapointing days in patrol (sunk a coastal freighter for 1800 tonns,
and damaged another, (i was forced to dive because of aircraft, and he limped away))
i've decided to try a harbour raid in Scapa Flow.
At dawn i was aproaching from the east, spotted a destroyer patroling the entrance
so i've dived to periscope depth. He spotted my radio antenna, because my type II
wasn't sumberged enough. It wasn't long before he was joined by another two or three destroyers. Than the party started. Few depth charges exploded so near, and
the uboat was almost doing a barell roll. After evading for at least 2 hours i've managed to shake them off. I couldn't belive that i was still alive after so much depth charging.

2. When returning home i've encountered a large merchant, and fired my last two torps in it. One detonated, but second was a dud. He was dead in the water, refused to sink, and i was out of torpedos. Than i started firing at it with my aa gun.
In the end he finally sank, but as i was sending him to the bottom, british torpedo boat appeared. He was some 300 meters away from me,but strangely he didn't attacked
me.

How could this be? Is it realistic to survive such close explosions, and why that torpedo boat didn't attacked me?

1. attribute it to luck. think of the old hunter's saying "sometimes you get the bear... sometiems the bear gets you" this time you got away... might not be so lucky next time.

2. i dont know why the torpedo boat didnt attack. are you sure it was british... are you sure it wasnt neutral? i know that ireland runs patrol boats out into sea occasionally, but they wont attack you.

One question about scapa flow. Did u see the actual harbor at close distance ? Last time i was there it wasnt visible nor in the map though i could see the anchored ships. I bumped multiple times against the concrete walls of the installation because of it.

what mods are you running.

You should have seen the port facility

GWX 2.1 also features blockade ships, sub nets and eventually mines to most of the entrances to the area.

You might be just to far away, that's why you've seen only anchored ships. I presume you were doing long recon with your external camera;) . Harbours (bildings, docks, etc.) are generated when you're (I mean sub) aprox. 30 km away. (That's game limitation):yep: .

GWX 2.1, olc2 with olc gui 1.2.6, sh3 commander, and some other minor mods.

I assume it was a british naval flag, because of the white background instead of red
one i've seen on merchants.

As for depth charges i don't know how to explain that. I've been in an almost identical situation with my VIIB, but the outcome was very different.:dead:
Maybe i got away because of the smaller size of type II, or it was a pure luck.
As i returned to port, i've seen in sh3 commander that the hull integrity was about 67%.

Somewhere i've read that depth charges in early war weren't so powerfull.
Is this true or is it simulated in GWX?

Actually early war depth charges were about as powerful as they got. Later in the war the British produced the Mk X charge with almost 10 times the TNT - 2000 lbs vs 290 - but they determined that this only moved the guaranteed kill radius from 20 feet to about 30.

There was a depth charge mod long ago that reflected this, and allowed you to take a lengthy pounding and still survive. I think GWX does the same.

Thanks for the info.

i saw nothing else but ships and the natural shoreline no harborinstallations whatsoever though i took damage hitting those.
