View Full Version : Fewer Promotions and Awards with SH4 1.5 TMO/RSRD?

OK, just finished my 2nd war patrol on v1.5, using RSRD & TMO. What I gotta say has struck me most is the much lower number of promotions and awards at end of patrol. I'm at 75% realism, to date have ~ 72ktons shipped to Davy Jones' Locker. But, a total of 8 awards (2 bronze stars & 2 silver stars each patrol) and 6 promotions for the 2 patrols.

Now, the awards are essentially meaningless I understand, but since crew do not increase in rank without a promotion (versus v1.4 where only promotion from E-3 to E-4 and E-6 to E-7 was required) it basically means most of my crew can be promoted and I can do little to nothing for them.

My questions: (1) is the related to one of the mods (TMO or RSRD)? (2) If this reduced number of promotions just what it is or will it improve? Because if it is always going to be at "3" I may just keep my crew (I guess I'm a crew amnagement geek who likes to try and simulate a more realistic rotation, or at least I was in v1.4).

Hope that is clearer than mud...thanks for responses in advance guys!

It is strictly 1.5 that has cut promotions... I noticed that too and I don't have mods...but I have not seen any decrease in crew awards. In fact after my second patrol the men were showered with medals. They were delighted with the awards. :yep:

Reading about the number of medals your crew got that seems to be a lot too..not a decrease. Yes?

My last few patrols using v1.4 (running TMO at around 50-75% realism, note there was no RSRD on this, although I think it is irrelevant) my crew seemed to get around 5 silver stars and 5 bronze stars...so that is what I got used to, although when I think about it that seems like a lot.

I personally don't care about the awards, as they seem to be essentially window dressing. But promotions being reduced bothers me. I'd gotten used to dumping roughly 25% of my crew every patrol and replacing them with mostly zero renown replacements. Given that previously promotions were only used for the jump from seaman to petty officer and from petty officer to chief (all the intermediate promotions were automatic based on experience) I could do this and keep a reasonable crew mix (generally around 7 officers, 7 chiefs, and then roughly 60% petty officers and 40% seamen give or take). But now, with only 3 promotions per war patrol (assuming it doesn't somehow change later...) and very limited replacement options this simply won't work--which may be good as I think I was spending a bit too much time managing crew rotations and not enough simply playing...

Anyway, I feel my 1st 2 patrols were successful (~42ktons and 2 carriers on 1st patrol, ~ 30ktons of all merchants on 2nd patrol) and since I am new to v1.5 as well as RSRD I wanted to see if this is typical for all players...

It requires at least 4 good patrols to be promoted and offered a new command.

I'm not certain, but I believe for it to be a good patrol you must complete all your objectives, not just have a high tonnage.

I could care less if I get promoted in the game (seems more likely to be forced to a desk in my view). I almost always complete all mission objectives (in v1.5 I have done that so far).

No, what seems to be decreased is promotions for my deserving CREW...

is there a way to somehow bump up the available crew promotions to compensate for needing to promote someone every time they can increase in rank?

Ahh, sorry for the confussion.

I believe that has been tweeked in 1.5, I'm not exactly sure how, possibly only active crew members gain experience, versus the entire crew all the time.

Sorry can't be of more help.
