I don't think the consoles are dead as long as there's money to be made off them
I just can't stand those idiots that say that PC gaming is dead though, ugh

Consoles can't do the complex games that a PC can do. Sims for one.

The vast majority of gamers don't seem to care about sims. They just want the bang.

When there is a gluttany of sims on the market, then yeah, probably not a good market to be in. But people get cravings for sims, such as what was seen when SHIII was released. It was the number 1 selling game for quite a while - beating out all other games.

There is of course the old (for computer stuff, anyway) theory that we'll all be using the same hardware for gaming, television, communication, etc sooner or later anyway.

I dread that day.
Consoles dying sounds too good to be true. I guess the damn things will never die.

In general, I agree. Most titles I want to play are PC, and if they start out as a console game, they're usually ported over. There are, however, quality games for pretty much every platform made, and I don't have any superiority issues about what machine I play the game on, though I used too.

I dont realy care for Play station, nintendo, xbox, ect. For one thing the systems dont have enough buttons to play very complex games. (they couldnt make a torpedo calculation if they had to) And they dont have many games that intrest me. I will always enjoy PC games more than Console games, I guess its because ive been playing with computers since I was five years old. (started with RR tycoon 2):D

Consoles as we know them definantly aren't going to continue. Rather, they'll probably just monopolize the home entertainment center as the singular provider of digital media. Replacing the dedicated VCR/DVD with its own built in, all encompasing capabilities. I don't understand why people on both sides of the industry insist on comparing computers to consoles at any time. They exist on completely seperate development cycles and trends and their problems don't really affect eachother.

Was it? I thought I remembered people commenting on it not being anywhere near the top, but doing well "for a sim".
I guess that's what I get for thinking.:sunny:

I play both consoles and a pc.
1)Consoles=better sports games (IMO) More Fantasy RPGs (I'm a long time Final Fantasy,Dragon Warrior,Grandia etc player. I haven't seen anything close on the pc other than the Neverwinter nights and KOTOR series...Oblivion just bored the hell out of me.)
2)PC=Just about everything else...from sims,to RTS to MMOs and I will be honest here and say I like to crank up Sims 2 once in a while just to see what kind of trouble I can get my toons into...and yes...I'm looking forward to Sims 3...so there.
I have a very wide taste in games...for that I need both consoles and a pc to handle that. Too many people here come accross as elitist or narrow minded.

Yup. Future consoles = HTPC
Everything can be pretty much replaced with an htpc. That's it really. Just put together a nice HTPC and buy a controller. The pc is basically a console when you use a controller. An HTPC with nice hardware is all you really need. You can do anything a console and a pc can do. Right from the comfort of your couch. You get the best of both worlds. All it takes is getting developers to make more of the games consoles tend to have exclusively, onto the pc.
Then again, that all cost money. Big freakin deal. The PS3 retailed for Five Hundred and Ninety Nine U.S. Dollars
What's the next awesome new set of consoles gonna run you hmmm? HTPC sounds worth it to me. If you really want an all in one solution for your living room.
What if consoles decide to remain consoles though? That's it? You just buy a new console every bunch of years? That's cool in only four ways.
1. You get backwards compatibility
2. The costs stay low enough so that making a pc costs too much.
3. NO MULTIPLAYER FEES (NO BULLS**T)
4. Price of games don't get jacked up. (again NO BULLS**T)
I have always liked the idea of a device that serves no purpose other than to play games. I've had many consoles. Online multiplayer was the only thing lacking for a while. The PS2 didn't seem to handle it very well. The xbox showed promise, but required commitment. This is where I felt like it was too much though. I like having a machine that I purchase that just plays video games. Naturally, I will pay for the video games. I just don't like having to commit to fees to play those games online. It's just silly. I don't have to do it on my pc. That's what the cable bill is for. "OOOH but what about the great service?" Well pc users can still voice chat, connect to nice servers (with more players;)), and make/keep track of buddies with software such as Xfire and the like. /matthew_lesko FOR FREE!
Same reason why I don't play mmo's. I feel like if I don't want to play it for a little while then I am just wasting money. Maybe that's just OCD. I do use the hell out of my high speed connection though. Always feels like it pays for itself in convenience. I can't live without the bloody thing.
The only 'current' console I own is a Wii. If you can call that current;) (bad joke yea?)
I don't think any of this comes off harshly. If it does, it's not meant to, so I hope nobody takes anything personally.
Jeez, pc gaming dying? Console gaming dying? What's next, Gaming Dying? I'm confused guys. I read the link twice and I am just not seeing his reason for declaring consoles dead.
"I'm the guy who talked Microsoft into the console business in the first place," boasted St. John, I'm so badass and devilishly handsome.
....
That time will also be marked by "renaissance of graphics programming," Crytek CEO Caveat Yerli said during a recent keynote. He also promised that the new CryENGINE will produce graphics three to five times better than Crysis, according to 1UP (http://www.1up.com/do/newsStory?cId=3169419).
Wow, really? You're going to make better graphics huh? NO way. Only three to five times better than Crysis? Come on, we all know how crappy that game looked. Make it 10 or 15 times better, then I will be impressed. Then we will be able to have good games. Crytek was a great game, but the graphics sucked.
