I'm afraid I'm no help either. I use SH3Gen, but I've never used the Tracking Room function. I always have it generate one report, to represent me opening my orders, then ignore it anyway.
Sorry.

Go to SHA (below) and click on mod links. On page 6 you will find SH Gen.
Click on it and it will take you to the info and download page
for SHIII general. There will be instructions and additional downloads you need.
Hope this helps....
It's difficult to help if you do not explain your problem further. Have you installed Sh3Gen yet, and used it before? Have you installed the TatukGIS viewer? What steps have you taken allready trying to get it work?

I have used SH3 Generator before & I like it very well. Now I would like to use the tracking room. I have installed the TatukGIS viewer.I exported it like it said to do in the generator& I did not get a map just a notepad that has items that are placed on the map. What did I do wrong? I have the auto launch checked.
Can you show a screenshot of what you do get.
I did not get a map just a notepad that has items that are placed on the map. Sounds like a contradiction to me. How do you know what's on the map if you don't get it.
Also, do you have the latest version 0.8.2? In the Settings/General menu is the "Tracking Room Export" marked?

I just started using it last night, and man was it great! I was ordered to sneak into loch ewe and sink enemy shipping inside. I hit a net, went over and into the harbor through the rain, and sunk a Southhampton class cruiser. Well the ASW trawlers gave me a working over, But i destroyed two of them, and managed to escape. The U-46 manages to survive another day.

I can't send you a screenshot since it is not played on an online computer but I can send you a partial SH3 Gen Tracking Room notepad that it creates.

There is an empty box above the name line on the page after you press the export, does a folder name go there?
I am really trying hard how to do this.

I'm not sure about the auto-launch; I haven't noticed it.
I don't have it in front of me and don't recall the precise folder and filenames, but if you open the Tatuk viewer, go File Open and point it to the tracking room files which SH3Gen created (in a subfolder in your main SH3Gen folder IIRC called data, then navigate to another subfolder named for your career, the files are there). Point to the main file (sorry I don't recall name just now, but you can try what looks like main file and if it doesn't work start over) and the viewer will open all the files.

I wasn't at my home pc before.
The auto-run option first. I guess I disabled this 'cause I didn't even realize it was there. However, I've enabled it and it works fine. After running SH3Gen itself and the log entries popup, close them, and you're left with the Tracking Room Export window which has the autorun tickbox. With that ticked, click Export. That opens up the files in the Tatuk viewer. What ver of Tatuk are you using. Mine is 1.8.6.341 . I seem to recall some discussion that there was a problem with newer versions of Tatuk, although my memory isn't good on that and it may be that that isn't an issue, in which case I don't know why it won't open for you. Try reinstalling both SH3Gen and the Tatuk viewer.
Another way is to do it manually. So untick the autorun tickbox and click Export.
You should have a main SH3Gen folder, wherever you put it when you first installed SH3Gen. There is a subfolder there, which will have been created when you ran SH3Gen, called User Data, with a subfolder with your career name. In that folder, there's a file called SH3Gen Tracking Room.ttk . That's the main data file for the Tatuk viewer, so doubleclick and all of the data should open in the viewer.
Hope that helps.

Good stuff
BTW, you should see on the right-hand side of the map (in the tatuk viewer) a side panel. You can enable/disable display of different kinds of units. I've found that they don't all display by default, so you just tick the boxes.

I am really trying hard how to do this.I wouldn't know what to do with that notepad textfile thingy. But if you say that folder box (on the window with 'export' button) doesn't come with something in it then that is probably your problem. I have:
G:\Program Files\SH3Gen\Sh3Gen\User Data\Rudolf Kellner
in there. Looks like Sh3Gen can't tell TatukGIS where the file is. I don't know how to fix that though. Have you tried uninstalling Sh3Gen and reinstalling with the correct procedure for using the TrackingRoom function.
p.s. Nevermind, bert8for3 allready said the same things. Didn't read the whole thread before posting

Sorry for being late. Also sorry to thehiredgun for being curt, I thought he was the type that doesn't read instructions ;)
To clarify:
Maps are stored in Sh3Gen\Userdata folder.
The file you open is always Sh3Gen\<MapFolder>\Sh3Gen Tracking Room.TTKGP
TTKGP is the filetype for TatukGIS projects and the extension must be associated with TatukGIS viewer. If it opens with notepad, it is because it is associated with the editor!
You can still open TatukGIS and open the Sh3Gen Tracking Room.TTKGP file. If you open .shp or .gml files the map will be displayed only partially.

If you're interested in this, check my brand new SHIV TR project. I have released 5 maps for the PTO which I think are much better than the Sh3Gen TR ones. even better, you can use without reloading / firing up Sh3Gen!

Thank You to the GlobalExplorer, sure appreciated. Will also look into SHIV maps too.
@GlobalExplorer:
When the tatukgis viewer opens and displays a sh3gen-map there is the legend on the right side of the screen. At the bottom there are 4 checkmarks unchecked (merchan_traffic, asw_traffic, warship_traffic, submarine trafic) When checking them they create small squares on the map. But they do not seem to be ships, as they allways stay at the same position compared with later savegames (of later dates). Are they by any chance waypoints of ships belonging to those groups? If so, why? What is their usefullness? Just for 'potential' risk/opportunity?

@Pisces: these layers are supposed to indicate traffic concentrations and they are indeed waypoints. You should see the concentrations when zoomed out.
@thg: did you get it to work then?

You don't even need SHIV to use my maps, and I really need people to put them under review. A lot of information will probably be ambiguous, but I can't help if no one asks.
The Tracking Room 2 application is going to be much more lightweight than Sh3Gen, and you really don't need a degree in computer science to use the intel maps that I published.
I'd be happy to, but I don't play sh4 just yet.
Me neither. My PC can't run it, so I have fired it up no more than 3 or 4 times. My plan was to wait until better mods (incuding my own) are available.
This is probably the first mod ever that was created without actually ever playing the game :rotfl:

Just realized you got your site back up. Got a few of the versions saved for posterity now.
Still using just v.07.1 for net1.1 so can't help with reviewing the ShIV maps but wanted to thank you for the mod work & keeping the D/L site going.

Why not? Neither Dotnet nor Sh3Gen are requirements, all you need is the viewer application, and that is included in the download.
Moreover I recommend an update to Sh3Gen v0.8.2 because it already includes the Tracking Room module, which is planned to replace Sh3Gen in the future.

@GE. I took a look at the sh4 maps in the Tatuk viewer. They look great  . I can't say that I really have any comments or suggestions :hmm: . I like the zone info (patrols, air cover etc).

Thank you for taking the time. Do you think they will be useful in planning your patrol or to see what's going on? Lets forget for the moment that you don't play SHIV.
Here an update on what I am working on. Docked ships:

No problem. ...
For sure. I'm assuming it'll work much the same way as sh3Gen and ie be configurable in terms of quantity and accuracy of data? I've taken to running it several times during a patrol with settings on relatively higher quantity but relatively lower accuracy. So kind of simulating updated intel reports during the patrol, but not that I can rely on anywhere near 100%.
edit/add: For example, in my current patrol I was assigned to EK74. After 20+ days of zilch traffic, I'm moving northwest into DG based on sh3Gen intel and then planning to work eastward to Las Palmas to resupply from the supply ship Corrientes (IIRC the name). Good fun.

Sh3Gen was internally too complex and using a huge amount of variables (specific for time, theatre, faction, unit, ..). In the end I was never quite sure how it worked (when it comes to randomization). The good thing was that this made it unpredictable for the user.
Right now the TR 2.0 application works without randomization. I found that it's much easier to develop from that. It' a possibility that I add randomization, but later, and of a much much simpler principle. Not that this should matter to the user. The result should be at least the same, and scale better with changes to the variables. Right I rather try to design the output in a way that it can be used without heavy randomization.
Look at my screen to see what I mean.
Screen1 shows just the following: an unknown number of merchants ships, as well as some unidentified naval unit is docked in the port. Patrols cover both entrances. There is also information about the position of coastal batteries as well as some coastal traffic.
http://www.christian-wendt.org/SH4//sh4gen_25.jpg
Screen 2: other scale, same principle. Colored zone shows where japanese merchant traffic is concentrated but it's a large area and you don't see any individual units. There are also a multitude of other zones for coastal traffic, aircoverage etc, but they never reveal any information that's dead on.
file:///C:/DOKUME%7E1/Standard/LOKALE%7E1/Temp/moz-screenshot-2.jpghttp://www.christian-wendt.org/SH4/sh4gen26.jpg
If you have used Sh3Gen you know how I do things, and that I do not like the spysat approach. But there have been a lot of complaints by people about never being able to find things plotted by Sh3Gen. I hope it makes sense if I therefore try to raise accuracy first, before anything else.

I actually recommend the opposite, low quantity but high quality of targets, because reliability was a big problem in Sh3Gen (has to do with spawn probabilites as well as time windows).

That was actually my pet project. I always loved the Vigo part in Das Boot, and I went to great lengths because I wanted to have that in SHIII. I am glad if it works for you, at least somewhat.

Works  (edit/add: the ressupply part)
Global Explorer, you are definately on the right track with this 'zone-ing' of intelligence. The dots and markers provided by SH3Gen on the tracking-room map gave a false sense of accuracy. Too pin-pointy. When I look at the map belonging to my savegames I keep getting the desire to flank to the nearest dots. Only to find out it was 'a mistakeh toh makeh'. ;) Providing general areas, yet not too big, is the way to go (imho).
Looking at the SH4 screenshots I find the areas showing merchant and naval activity in large scale overview somewhat obvious. Looking at the occupied ports and airbases it's not so difficult to judge this in one's mind. If you could find a way to show more traffic lanes between ports that would be great. I was thinking of showing the waypoint routes with (wide) rectangles instead of lines as in the editor. And then 'adding' or logic 'OR-ing' those colored areas together as you did with the airbase coverage. That should create plenty of overlap. And perhaps colorcoding/shading those areas (or parts thereof) based on average spawning frequency to show hot areas. But I do not know what tatukGIS allows you to do in this regard.
Lastly, I would like to beg you to make a SH3 release once you are finished with this trend. Please don't limit yourself (and us) to SH4. SH3 is still vibrant enough. I really would like to sink those japs aswell (somewhat of a personal reason) but SH4 is too heavy for my PC.
[minor edit: logic OR, ... not AND. Was way past bedtime.]
