View Full Version : Some Questions about GWX
I just installed SH3. It has been a few years since I played it, and the GWX mod looks incredible, but I have a few questions.
1. I had a BAD experience with the Seawolves Expansion disc. Basically is installed it to SH3(fully patched) and basically the game crashed with a SH3 has encountered a problem message. I unstalled Seawolves, used the repair function to reinstall SH3, and it is up and running again. I just want to be sure that this does not happen with GWX.
2. Is it possible to still use "vanilla" SH3 after you install GWX? In other words, is GWX a mod that makes it impossible to go back to the standard game unless you uninstall?
Thanks for your answers.

Well afaik the only way to be able to roll back GWX to stock sh3 is to use multish3. With it u can have as many different sh3 versions installed as u like include the original.

Welcome to Subsim.
1. I had a BAD experience with the Seawolves Expansion disc. Can't imagine why.:hmm::lol:
I uninstalled Seawolves, Best decision you ever made.
Is it possible to still use "vanilla" SH3 after you install GWX? In other words, is GWX a mod that makes it impossible to go back to the standard game unless you uninstall? When you install GWX the installer patches your stock SH3 installation. GWX was designed this way to avoid 'user error' and to remove mod conflicts. Once the Stock 1.4b install has been patched by GWX there is no way remove the changes with out uninstalling the lot.
However, not all is as it seems.:D
1) Directly after installing SH3 and patching to 1.4b copy the entire Program folder to either a removable disk or DVD. This way you always have a 'clean' copy. This means that if you are not happy with GWX you can just delete it from the Program Folder and the Copy & Paste your clean version back in.
2) Use of MultiSH3. This program allows you to designate each separate install of SH3 (modded or not) a dedicated save folder (the one in My Docs). So you could have SH3 Stock saves & SH3 GWX Saves. This keeps all relevant files from each intallation apart from each other.
3) This requires more user interaction. Prepare your installs and only use the one save location as default. However, you must remeber to use the correct folder for the version you are playing. For example for a Stock & GWX install your must have two save folders in My Docs, one called SH3 & one called SH3 GWX. So if you want to use GWX, you must rename the SH3 GWX folder to SH3 & then rename the Stock SH3 folder to SH3 Stock. The game (without MultiSH3) will only ever use the folder desiganted SH3.
Alas Klar?:D
