View Full Version : GWX 2.1 Expansion problem?

Dear Sir,

My computer is a Dell XPS M1330 (2GHz, 4GBRAM, NVIDIA GeForce 8400M GS 128MB), under Microsoft Windows XP Professional 2002 SP3. Hence, I have the recommended specifications and, in fact, the SH3 version 1.4b runs smoothly.

After paging through a most impressive Manual for your GWX 2.1 expansion, I have rushed to install it following your instructions and no debug text file GXEInstErr.log file was produced.

However, when I run SH3 GWX2.1, after the nice GWX wolf scream, it comes the original SH3 game trailing and, a loading horizontal red bar which takes less than 3 minutes to complete. From then on, I can hear beautiful music on the background, and see a mouse arrow over a completely black screen. I am able to move the mouse arrow, which leaves a trail. But nothing else happens, exception made of a YES NO after pressing the escape key. So, with the beautiful music still going, I can return to Windows.

Two questions:
1) Is there something else to do for the SH3 with GWX 2.1 expansion to run?
2) Having uninstalled the whole SH3+1.4b+GWX2.0+GWX2.1 package (using the uninstall DVD command, deleting every SH3 folder, and running Uniblue Registry Booster) I installed again SH3+ 1.4b. Unfortunately, the result is not as it was originally: I get now the same black screen described above. Any hints?

Thank you very much for your time.

You say you deleted every SH3 folder, does that include the SH3 program folder or just the SH3 folder in My Documents? The uninstall will leave an SH3 program folder on your hard drive that contains files that usually makes it impossible to reload the 1.4 patch. If you haven't deleted this folder, run a search for SH3, and locate and open the old SH3 program folder and delete it.

Also, you might want to download the program Tuneup Utilities 2008. You get the full blown version for a free 30-day trial.

Simple!

Here's the solution:

1) Start
2) All Programs
3) K-Lite Codec Pack
4) Configuration
5) Codec Tweak Tool
6) Disable the ffdshow filter

This should correct the issue.

Welcome Aboard Dr.
Hang in there and we will get you up and running. After you do what von Zelda and danlisa suggest; if you still can't load, try deleting the movie files from Ubisoft\SilentHunter\data\Movies\Intro folder. I have XPpro sp3 and K-lite codex pack, but the only way I can get the game to start is to delete both these files.

Hey Irish,
since they are approx. 70mb in size, will SH3 load quicker without these files?

And the game will play without these files?

Hi Everybody!

Thank you very much for your help!.
The problem was solved by disabling the Codec packs.
Is there a GWX 2.1 fix?

The GWX expansion is certainly a must!

Most sincerely,
Ricardo Reischel

A) I don't know. You can test it using SH3CMDR 3.1 by disabling them and then timing.
B) The game plays fine without these files.

Bigboywilly has a combined fix for GWX 2.1, which you can get at the GWX website.
