I have played the Silent Hunter games since they first came out. I took a hiatus from them for awhile, but I was turned back on to them when I saw Silent Hunter 4 Gold was coming out on 8/22/08.

I have found a few things about it, but not much.

What is going on?

I know Silent Hunter IV has been out for a while, with add-ons like the German missions in the pacific.

Exactly what differences are there with Silent Hunter 4 Gold that is coming out 8/22/08 and Silent Hunter IV with the add ons?

Thanks a bunch!

Johnny

I believe it is just the culmination of all patches and the uboat add-on in one package. Maybe some other goodies in the box as well.

I just ordered it from Amazon.com, It`s SHIV plus U-Boat missions, and I take it the patches are inclusive, all on DVD. Puts

I see, so it should have all of the U-Boat add ons, etc. all together, rather than buying the original game for $20.00 and the u-boat add on for $10, you get it all for $30 and possibly some other goodies.

Is that right?

Well, it's like this (in the USA at least):

1) Buy Silent Hunter 4 for around $20. You get a box, a CD with the game on it, and a manual that is wrong a lot of the time. You'll likely get v1.3 of the game. You'll have to download and install the v1.4 patch for the game to be playable.

Buy the U-Boat Missions add-on for $10. You get nothing but a digital download - a file. No hard copy. You can't buy a physical copy of just the add-on anywhere in the USA. This will patch your game up to v1.5.

or

2) Buy Silent Hunter 4 Gold Edition for around $30. You get a box, a DVD with the game and U-Boat Missions all in one place. Maybe an updated manual is in there too? No patches needed (yet). If you put the game away on a shelf 10 years and want to play it again, you can use this one disc to install the game again. No need to worry about finding your "digital download" of the add-on or patches.

I agree, especially since I haven't been able to get the add-on anywhere. D2D thinks I live somewhere else, the only boxed copy I found was in Bangkok and would have cost a fortune, and Steam wanted to make me buy a new download of the whole thing. Since I got on the bandwagon early I'm getting it for $20, so I think Ubi's doing me a huge favor.
