What a great day it is for the people of Great Britain as we sit down to enjoy the opening here in the Olympics stadium, and there is Boris Johnson Mayor of London on his bike pedaling around the stadium with the Union Flag fluttering from from his bike. And here comes the fireworks man with his big box of fireworks which should last about 10 minutes. And as I look around this half empty stadium, I can see the London Olympics committee standing up and clapping as the first firework is lit then fizzles out without a bang, well what did you expect when its done on the cheap. We were expected a fly by, by the Red Arrows but the PC lobby put a stop to that.

Sarcastic git I am at times. :rotfl:

I'll buy a ticket if you are the feature intertainment. (a drunk) Steed in a pink tutu on a unicycle, with a Union Jack. I'd pay to see that. Sure it's not as "flashy" as China's was, but just as entertaining.

i am wondering if there is anything to do with the olypmics that will warrant as politically incorrect in this country... i mean, the 5 olympic rings can be said they look like chains, which some may associate with slavery, which obviously will upset some people.

as for the running races - well, these races are done on a race track. tracks are also used for trains, and trains were used to transport thousands of jews to camps. the government may, then, be worried about being seen as nazi sympathisers.

and also - the union jack... there will obviously be lots of them waving around, and if labour are still in office, they may end up thinking "union jack" "union jack", "union j.." "union" "union" "workers union" "strike"... and the whole country goes on strike.

and don't forget the bronze medal. we may have to find another word, as bronze could offend people with a sun-tan. gold, silver, and medal #3.

jees - it seems there is more to this olympic lark than just a load of people running round and throwing things :88)

I suppose the brits will find money, I only fear that surveilance and security measures will dwarf those of the Chinese.
In 2012, maybe the brits will force everyone to wear a RFID ID and be able to monitor every movement around the olympics?
Or maybe face recognition in all of London?

Obviously, the Brits can't compete with the 2008 Summer Olympics in many ways....what Country could? But if they keep it simple, and go for hi ingenuity rather than hi tech, I believe their history and culture will be impressive. :D
