In this interview with developmag Braben states that Elite 4 would be released after completion of The Outsider next year.

Now let's hope that The Outsider will not tank otherwise it will all be for nothing don't you think ...

And before you all get hard and start saving for Elite IV go to this thread and read the posts by smars, it looks like the announcement was not really official.

I believe David had his words twisted into what the magazine wanted to print. We are (as of right now) not due to make an annoucement any time soon - in fact we are still arguing internally about the right time to make such an annoucement. Some people want to start talking publically early (and continously) and some want to hold off until later when there would be more to show. It is not a huge religous war or something that we are having, just different points of view.

And while I am correcting quotes I believe David B did not say that Elite IV would be made following the Outsider, only that it would be released after the Outsider - which is close but not quite the same thing.

Ha, ha, ha :rotfl:...seriously?

Been a while since I heard of Elite 4, I was certain it was vaporware...

I wonder if this game will be as big as it was on the amiga. games nowadays are so crammed full of sexy graphics, that not much room is left for game-play.

Frontier (Elite II) came on a single floppy-disk for the amiga, as the planets etc were all "generated" there and then as required, no textures - just good old vectors.

Don't get me wrong, I love lush graphics - but when there are games as gorgeous looking as SH4, it is important that the game lives up to it's looks - SH4 is incomplete, flawed, and buggy... but looks sexy :D

Now just for a little dreaming. These shots are not from Elite 4 but from a small tech demo I made with Ogre3D, just to demonstrate what a space sim could look like, if it is intended to show space as it looks from real spacecraft ( no neon colored fog or asteroids where ever you walk). The technology is there, now it only needs some company to make a game!

Looks like Orbiter (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Orbiter_%28sim%29) my favorite space simulation ;)
