View Full Version : New mission type?

I was given the choice of a new command after 3 successful patrols on board the Spearfish which I took. So now I'm on my first patrol on the Halibut out of Brisbane. My first mission is what I call a "reverse insertion" - instead of inserting supplies, spies or whatever, I'm to travel to Choiseul and pick up 3 downed aviators.
It doesn't look like a lifeguard mission, and Beery's "How to complete SH4 missions" thread doesn't mention this, so I'm wondering if any one else had encountered this type of mission before, and if so what's needed to complete it?

Thanks.
To add: I'm running TMO 152 + RSRDC, no other major mods.

Never had that before!! If that's a start of a new career mission, it seems unrealistic if you have to sail from any home-port to pick up downed naval aviators considering you may be some 3000 NM away from the location.:hmm: "Stay afloat guys!! We'll be there in 3 weeks."

"reverse insertion"
Got a feeling there is a bad joke in using words like that.
Staying away from it.
"so what's needed to complete it?
Princess Leah tells me now and then before closing my eyes:
"Use the force, Luke." It works now and then.
Naturual reactions should serve the purpose you need to seek.

Could be that these guys were picked up by Coastwatchers. Though it would've been easier and faster to arrange a pick up from forces on Guadalcanal.
Anyway I'll play it through and see what happens.
Are there any special "pick up" missions in SH4?
None that I've seen. I think your idea as looking at the mission as a rescue from an island is the right way to look at it. There were plenty of those. Could be worse. It could be a group of civilians so you'd have to come back to base without any hunting :yep:.
Good Luck!

Ok, I've completed this mission, and it's quite simple I might add. Expect for the beginning when I spent half an hour trying to figure out how to actually do the rescue. I figured that out eventually.
What happened was that nearing the objective denoted by the icon, I went up to the bridge. Spotted 3 pink smoke plumes. Made my way to the nearest, watch crew spotted friendly aviator in the water. With the binos I saw the guy ( a bit hard to make out amongst the smoke, no raft, just a guy treading water being shark bait). When I got near enough the "rescue" icon on the toolbar lit up and I rescued the pilot by pressing the button.
Rinse & repeat for the other 2 chaps.
Not sure if this is the same as rescuing downed aviators on Lifeguard missions, but it's easy. Only problem is that the currents must be strong as those guys sure drift along at a good pace!
