Greetings all. I didnt want to buy this game, I was a U-boat holdout.....those darn guys at sh3 forums kept talking about it....and here I am. I have two problems....the 1st is how do I drop off my passenger? I made it to the coast, do I have to be a certain distance from the beach, or hit a certain button? I did look in the threads, but I could have easily missed it. My other problem is I really miss seeing the bananas swaying from the ceiling and there isnt a case of beer under the Kapitans bunk!

It's good to see some of the old names here.

Any help would be appreciated.

Welcome to the Pacific. I like both theaters as each presents the player with unique experiences. Not to mention doubling your tonnage :hmm:.

To drop off a spy or supplies (or whatever) you need to get pretty close to your objective. Then I just go up on the bridge and hit All Stop (~) and the crew puts out a raft. Be prepared when they put the raft over the side, if it even grazes your boat, it'll sound like some's taking a disk sander to your hull. When I hear that, I leave :yep:.

Hope that helps...

Yeah...I can recall back when I knew everything there was to know too.

Now I live in a state of perpetual bewilderment at how much I must have forgotten over the long years. :-?

When dropping off a spy, or commandos, or supplies to guerillas on Jap held islands, I try to run with the decks below the surface, and use the map. I measure out to 3,000, 4,000, and 5,000 yards.I also use the depth sounder a lot so as not to run aground. Or try not to anyways. Once I get in that zone between 3,000 and 5,000 yards, I turn the boat so the starboard side is facing the shore. I use back slow to help stop the boat. Once stopped, I surface the boat, and let the spies, or raiders or whoever they are at the time paddle away in their dingy rafts. It helps to alieviate some of the nasty noise if the raft happens to bang into the side hull, as it's really annoying, and inaccurate. After all, a rubber or balsa wood raft, isn't going to make any telltale sound if it bumps against a sub hull.

.....which uses the same sound effect as a ship collision (nice QA by the devs there ay?).:-? I would hope that was fixed in 1.5?

Haven't done a drop off as yet but it'll be interesting to to hear if the noice of the raft banging against the hull is still way too loud. I'm using RFB an RSRD mods though!!

Fearless;
it will be loud. Now that you're aware though it won't be such a shock and you'll know enough to disregard it. The first time it happened to me on a 'dropoff' mission it scared the crap outta me, I had the room lights off, it was a dark night in-game, quiet etc and I was immersed in the mission when suddenly KRRRANNNNGG, SCREEEEECH!! I had to tear the headphones off, LOL. I thought I'd run aground, got bounced by another ship, something!! I went to outside view and looked around trying to find out what I'd done wrong but nothing. It took me a couple of seconds to realize what the reason was then it was "Aw man, you gotta be kidding me!!" type of reaction, LOL.

With your help I dropped off my passenger....and of course he banged into the sub....and yeah, the noise got to me even though I was expecting it.
A few hours later I came across two troop ships with three escorts.....one of them picked me up while I was 5000 yards away (just at daybreak). I had the scope up for a minute trying to ID them, but never left it up for long. Is the IJN that good or did I have a crew banging on a bulkhead with a wrench? Wow.
Anyway, it was good practise....I found out my batteries werent discharging....I must have missed that checkbox (apparently have unlimited fuel too) when I started. Cant play like that, so we will start over after I get these guys back to Pearl.
I think I'm going to like this as much as I did SH3 with GWX.

If you can hear them, they can hear you. I turn my engines off. Dive deep below thermal layer. Time their arrival . Come up to periscope depth and give them a blast. Dive deep again and try and sneak away. That's on a convoy. On single ships I stay at periscope depth. I found that if you set the the movement to real, and the sea's are a bit rough you can raise the boat until the decks are awash and get a better view. Observation periscope goes up higher so this helps too. I've got to try and stop using the map so much. It makes it too easy. I'm still trying to find out where the range information is on the sonar screen. Trying to guess distance by the intensity of the sound ain't easy.

That wasn't the ONLY thing I heard on my first patrol out. As soon as the raft hit the water, crewmembers started shouting SHIP SPOTTED, CLOSE RANGE!!!. :o

Well, naturally, I think they're talking about an EMENY ship somewhere nearby. Started scrambling for the chart, trying to find out where this ship was, and zilch comes up. Figured out it was the RAFT, damnit!

Guys, you don't have to notify me about a raft. They're not going to sink us - they're on OUR side.

Noobies. Now go get me some coffee. :x

I forgot about the "ship spotted" BS. I think that was resolved in the patches. I remember the stock game also gave out "ship spotted" for a parachute too! Did anyone at the company actually play this game before it was released, LOL???:-?

I played through a first patrol and halfway through the second on an unpatched system (1.0.0.0), it was amusing hearing "ship spotted" when a freighter crew deployed their liferaft. D

Not so amusing was every other damn thing that made it so buggy back then though. ;)
