I got all the Knight's Crosses in one patrol where I got less than 10k tons. I'm using a stock game with SH3 Commander 3.1.3.185. Why am I getting all these awards?

I'm not sure. Did you just enable Commander or have you been using it all along. I'm thinking that if you just enabled it, it might be giving you the awards for the three previous patrols.

I don't go near the stock game, so other than that I don't know.

I've no idea also, but if you want to adhere to reality as much as possible I'd only award a maximum of two medals and 4 minor awards at the end of each patol.

If a patrol was exceptionally successful, I would double up on the numbers.

This career was started with SH3 Commander. Although I have another career that wasn't, and has half a million tons.

Not sure why you're getting all those awards but SH III (with or without Sh3 Cmdr) is pretty weird when it comes to medals. I had a career going with Cmdr where I was awarded EK II (Iron Cross 2nd class) at the end of one patrol then given the DKiG (German Cross in Gold) at the end of the next. I'd skipped over the EK I & had to wait until I'd finished yet another patrol to be awarded that medal.:hmm:

Strange things happen, In my 2 careers (about 56 patrols) I've never been awarded with German Cross. Last patrol I exited just after start to receive uboat badge (ubootfrontpange). NO kills, 0 renown.:hmm:

Bug, short answer.

Long answer, I don't know. I've played missions where I have received these medals. Shortly afterwards, they would be gone, and then the next mission, I'd receive them again.

Is Admiral Donitz your father-in-law? :hmm:

During the Norway invasion, I sailed along the Norway coast hopeing to give my fellows some support. In an extremly nasty weather, all I could find is a bunch of German ships.

Finally I encountered 2 armed trawlers (better than nothing). Fired 4 eels, but they passed right below their keels, as the trawlers were jumping on high waves.
A few days later I stumbled upon 4 destroyers steaming towards Narvik at 36 kts. I fired a long distance spread and missed.

Frustrated, I returned home without a kill, expecting a Court martial. Instead, I got promoted :o. Go figure...

Playing GWX 2.1 with SH3 Commander.

Looks like your efforts were enough to warrant recognition.

Maybe in those four patrols in stock SH3, you were just a insanely agressive kaluen that uses the deck gun to its fullest and a crack-one-shot marksman with the torpedoes.

In that way, you raked up so much tonnage that the Admiral pinned you with a ton of medals.

I got like 26,000 tons total. Ha!

I just started a new career in 1939 with SH3 Commander 3.1 and GWX 2.1. I did a 2 day patrol and sunk like 4k of "neutral" Britsh ships. I got these awards:

03AUG39 IRON CROSS, SECOND CLASS
03AUG39 IRON CROSS, FIRST CLASS
03AUG39 KNIGHT'S CROSS
03AUG39 KNIGHT'S CROSS WITH OAK LEAVES
03AUG39 KNIGHT'S CROSS WITH OAK LEAVES AND SWORDS
03AUG39 KNIGHT'S CROSS WITH OAK LEAVES, SWORDS, AND DIAMONDS

:)

I also saw a "lighthouse ship"? It was a double masted, flagless stationary ship with a passenger ship also stationary near it. That was flying a Finnish flag I think? The double masts on the flagless ship had bare rotating lights on them. Odd.

Not odd at all. Lightships were posted in places inconvenient to build lighthouses, and beligerents usually left them alone, as they helped sailors of all nations. The ship nearby may or may not have been a tug, but it was certainly a lightship tender.

FYI it's SH3 that awards medals, badges and ranks to players/Kaleuns, NOT SH3Cmdr. Unless you manually edit "Static settings.cfg" to adjust the game's PLAYER_RENOWN values, then SH3Cmdr has absolutely NO influence in what the player/Kaleun is awarded.

Likewise, SH3Cmdr has no influence in what the crew is awarded. The difference here though is that unlike awards given to the player/Kaleun, SH3Cmdr gives players the ability to override SH3's internal awarding logic by providing a crew manager component whereby you can award medals, badges and ranks to your crew based on actual historical criteria (thus ignoring what SH3 gives you to award).

I have mentioned this numerous times before btw. ;)

After playing this game (off and on) since it came out, I was finally awarded the German Cross in Gold. I sunk approx 80k tons in tankers. I found a convoy west of BF 13 that was all tankers, escorted by many destroyers and one Fiji Cruiser. Luckily I had the XXI and it was during a storm. I laid waste to all those T-3 tankers before the DDs could find me. I use magnetic at a depth of 12m for T-3s and 10 meters for T-2s. One shot one kill. The Fiji was last kill, with a acoustic torpedo, magnetic, 7 meters. After that I popped decoys and slipped out. There was approximately 5 destroyers after me.

I would have to go back and look, but I thinking it was patrol 39. In May 1944.
Honestly I always thought that spot was for wound badge. Feels good to have a full shadow case.
