Well I finally got the 'Uboat' expansion.

I started a new carrier with a Uboat... sorry dont remember which but early in the war. I was sent off to patrol a sector.

I had set the game for difficult and double checked the settings in the office (once I finally found it) and left every thing at difficult except map contacts as Im unfamiliar with the area.

I arrived at my patrol sector and Holy Smokes ! Contacts everywhere... dozens of them. Finished the patrol and radioed in, assigned another sector... more contacts. A virtual target rich enviroment ! With a tender boat nearby I could have stayed out there for months and sunk probably two dozen or more ships.

Is it 'normal' to have this many available targets?

Also whats with the fuel consumption? Seems like I can run around for weeks at flank and still have 75% fuel left. Havent even really tested the battery runs yet.

This normal?

Honestly seemed a bit absurd to me.

Yes, the amount of traffic is a bit much. Just enjoy it.

Yes in stock SH4UBM U-Boat career there are lots and lots of targets. It sure is fun and great practice. But it is not necessarily realistic. Operation Monsun can fix that at the cost of losing the Type XVIII and some of the fancy torpedoes that were never available in that theater.

Later additions of Operation Monsun take you out of the Indian Ocean and let you play with some toyz and with realistic traffic. Stock is good for learning how to operate your U-Boat, and I think it's a load of fun. Your mileage may differ...

What about that "radioing" in feature, for planes, merchant raiders (?), and task forces? I'm assuming that's fun to use too. :D

Im supposing it would be. Problem is nobody is in the neighborhood at the time.

Im supposing though with all those blue and red squares out there sooner or later there going to clash.

That I cant wait to see.

True, there is a lot of traffic. Even on my very first mission in an IX, i was sent to patrol... was it K42 sector, but anyhow. i arrived there about 2 hours prior to homebase midnight and 30 minutes later my sonar man reported a sizeable fleet heading straight my way.

I decided to take a look and found North Carolina, Colorado, Tennesee along with Heavy cruiser Baltimore Northampton with Cleveland and a brooklyn class cruisers. 4-6 i think of the cruisers in total. And about 12 destroyers. I was already setted in silent running and sank all 3 battleships and a northampton, might have gained the baltimore down if my 3 torpedoes were not duds.

But really, that is one hell of a good luck..

I think date was February 24th.. Was it -43 when the German campaing starts..

But yeah, i dont think the US fleet sent it's battleships to the western Australia naval base without carrier support. *shrug*
But game is a game, and i still like it no matter the small flaws it contains.
