What does this thing ? Does it upgrade only range of my standard sonar ?

Not familiar with it, but if it is available as an upgrade, i guess it would be an improvement over the standard hydrophones. Perhaps you get longer range and maybe more accurate bearings.

Better Range I believe, and more accuracy with targets directly aft or stern.

Excuse me if I'm mistaken but I thought that was only in the 1.5 patch, or some of the mods.

JP-1: sonic listening gear. Sonic audio waves travel farther and thus can be heard from long distances. This is contrast to supersonic waves, which travel much shorter distances. WCA sonar is a supersonic listening gear set.
