Pacific vs. Asiatic

Just curious about who's from what "neighborhood". I like the Asiatic because I don't have to do the National Lampoon's Vacation road trip to get to Japan. Plus, you are just down the block from the South China, Java, Celebes and Rabul pubs. Maybe you rich kids from Pearl, with your fancy new boats, could let me know what I am missing in all that blue water to the north?

I like to start in the Asiatic. Closer to the action and you do not have to mind your fuel to much. Eventually you might get transfered to Pearl and have to endure the long transit. Thankfully, time compression is our friend.

Except when you run into one of those crazy islands that pop up out of nowhere...

But yea the trip from Pearl is typically a long one espically if your like me and dive in the day light hours and surface at dusk.... Dive, Surface, dive, surface, etc etc.

Also the constant "Ship spotted" interrupts changing your TC to 8 :doh:

Sigh... its just a allied tug boat... ramp TC up again and "ship spotted" ... groan its the same damn boat.

This is were RSRD comes into play. You really should not spot much of anything until you are in Japanese controlled waters. From what I read, the Japanese did not spend a whole lot of time in the area after The Battle of Midway and losing a lot of the fleet there caused this. Specifially the carriers. It was not long before they started pulling their resource back to the mainland for protection. The Dolittle Raid woke them up to the fact that their main island could be hit. The comfort zone was then reduced. RSRD helps in this area quite a bit. I can make transit on the surface well into Japanese controlled waters without sighting vessels when assigned to Pearl. Much of the Japanese concentration was in the islands between Japan and Australia. This is were their resources are to continue the war. Plenty of subs transited surfaced right to Japan's front door. Dive once or twice for aircraft. What I'm getting at is RSRD makes it a bit more realistic. Are you guys using RSRD?

Warhawk is right, I'm currently on patrol from pearl, and I almost always make it to japanese water before I spot any enemy vessels or aircraft. I'm not saying I don't have radar contactas close to midway and such, but it's all friendly. Not the case before installing RSRD.

That has to be one of the most ingenious and coruagious feats of world war 2. Those guys had to be nuts to launch a B25 off the deck of a carrier... without catapults :o
