I hope it is ok to write this here. I only have 2 friends on the outside (ptsd, dont go nowhere.) I consider you guys my friends. Some of you have helped me before.
A couple of weeks ago I asked for prayer (from those it dont offend) for a biopsy. It came back cancer. I dont smoke or anything and am only 49 but I got cancer. The VA said they must operate very soon and even with surgury, I will only have a 50-50 chance.
If any of you guys got any pull with the Commander In Chief upstairs, or wish to add me to your church/group prayer list, I would be very obliged. Thank you in advance and I hope I didn't offend anyone.

Sarge

PS I STILL wanna come to the convention, if its the last thing I do.

:ahoy:

Sarge, that's really terrible. I lost my baby sister in January to cancer, at the age of 42. 5 weeks after her birthday actually. Same day the community lost Dave. Brother, I've been to 4 funerals since. My sister being the first. So i'll use what diplomatic leverage I have with the Divine Providence and pray that it makes a difference for you and yours.

If you want to, you can contact the Cancer Treatment Centers of America, and a few other places that do things outside the box, from the standard treatments the rest of the medical world uses.

Good luck with this! Keep the spirits up, even when it seem like it's the worst.

Hello Sargeant,

I don't know yourself, nor do I believe we have communicated before. However what you describe is something nobody should have to face alone. So I shall definately keep my fingers crossed for you and hell I'll even say a prayer. I don't talk to the Boss enough these days.

You know what the real secret to survival is... How badly do you want to live?

If your will to live, that fire in your belly, if its stronger than the pull of death... then you will survive. I won't elaborate too far but well... your chances, are greater than the chances I once had and I'm still here. Don't give up on yourself, you fight for your 3 score and 10 and don't accept no less.

Regards,
Pen

I'm certainly going to do this, Sir, and will pray for you.
Thanks for letting us know, Sir, cause it's better not to keep this kind of thing to yourself. Keep faith, and hold out hope.

Respectfully,

Alex

contact the Cancer Treatment Centers of America,

First...now there is a piece of advice I would urge you to heed...

Second...since I retired in 1997 I have been making and distributing Rosaries to missions around the world free of charge. There are literally thousands praying around the clock and around the world using my Rosaries. If I have earned any grace what-so-ever by this I gladly pass it on to you. I will ask that those praying to add your personal healing intention to their prayers also.

Third...another good piece of advice from above...fight with a strong will to survive this...

Forth...Good luck to you...

I'm really sorry to hear that. Of all my family my little sister is the one I'm closest to.

Best of wishes, if I have any strings to pull I surely will.

"You better take care of me Lord, if you don't you're gonna have me on your hands."

... and if he doesn't, he'll be answering to me as well. ;)

Good advice from all, Sarge. You'll be in my family's prayers as well.

Whatever you do, don't give up the fight. Having lost my father when he was 47 to Lymphoma and fighting the same myself (in remission after 3 years of chemo), I know that the diagnosis is one that will scare the crap out of you. The numbers that a doctor gives you are just that, numbers. You can change that number with a positive attitude and a will to fight. Do just that and say thanks for each day that you have.

Almost forgot, keep that sense of humor, it will sustain you more than you know.

My family, friends, and Ill try to get my 'church' to pray for you as well.

Being a fellow sufferer of skin cancer (too many days in the sun as a youth) I know the apprehension you are going through.

Good luck !

Buddha95, I'll echo again consider contacting the Cancer Treatment Centers of America...lost my father last October to lung cancer, but when traditional doctors were ready to refer him to hospice he went to them and never regretted it. In his case he got about an extra year-and-a-half that was surprisingly good quality. Certainly worth checking out.

Attitude makes a ton of difference...won't always result in a win but I think it makes more difference than many realize. Hang in there man and God bless.

Prayers are with you fellow sub simmer. I hope all will work out for the best. I hope one of these days, we can cure this hideous disease. My father died at 59 with cancer, so did both of his sisters and all seven of my grandfathers siblings. (including him)

I'll probably be in that boat myself one of these days but until then, I hope we can make progress in stomping it out.

I can't guarantee I have major pull with the boss, and I will advise you have a chat with him yourself as he can be a really swell fella if you care to hang out with him enough. Do just about anything for ya if its really what needs to be done. With that said, I'll make sure to have more than one talk with him. Just remember we don't always get what we ask for - sometimes he gives us shore leave, knowing that if we go out for one more patrol without a good long rest, we wont come back. So if it comes to it - take the desk job he gives ya - it might be his way of making sure your not on eternal patrol.

Keep your spirits up too - he likes skippers who are willing to fight. I figure he thinks puttin a little effort toward a captain that wont surrender and scuttle at the first sign of the enemy is better than doing lotsa paperwork for a slacker.

Remember he has got the big picture - us captains only see our tiny part.

Thank you for your service, my friend. Don't forget, depending on your status you can get treatment at not just a VA or civvie hospital, but often you can qualify for care at an active duty facility. A number of them are very good with this type of thing, and you may be close to one or able to reach one if that is the case. Take care my friend.
