It´s now 1943 and the campaign progresses with Patrol 15.

"Weddingen", "Wegener" and "Saltzwedel" are pounding the allies. The 29:th is fighting an uneven battle in the med.

U-Boote are lost and the Kriegsmarine need replacements.

We are now opening up the 11:th and 30:th Flottillien and need more commanders.........

I dropped out because writing my patrol log became too painfull after braking my hand. I need to write a detailed patrol log in order to better immerse myself and found I just couldn't do it with the gummy hand. So I downloaded and started playing WAC 3. I'll finish giving that a spin and then i'll be back to WAW.

I'll probably start a new career beacuse I'll have to re-enter my patrol logs again (due to the DB crash that happened 2 months ago) if I want to sustain my current career.

Thats not to say WAW is not well managed people, on the contrary, its very professionaly managed by a dedicated and comitted team of flotila commanders and guys with a high level of technical know-how. I'll even go as far as to say that WAW is really the only reason I play SH3, which in turn keeps me connected to the SH3 community and thus enables me to learn of and try new SH3 mods.

WAC and WAW both strive for a common goal, namely immersion.

WACs historical events seem to be vey well scripted, allowing us to really feel we're playing a part in a bigger picture rather than the usual feeling of being alone in the Atlantic all the time.

WAW brings us U-Boat commanders into a role-played military framework where we are assigned to flottilles, assigned our patrol orders, instructed on available equiment upgrades, even told our allowable torpedo loadouts. All in keeping with what was historically accurate at the time of your patrol. So whilst you cast off into the "immersive" SH3 campign, you also cast off from WAW with a feeling your part of something bigger and not on yer own in this war. You'll radio weather reports back every 4 days, and hopefully the occasional contact report. You'll keep BdU informed of your fuel level and number of fish.

Hopefully, WAW and WAC will continue their individual paths to the same goal and unite into what surely would be considered the mother of all "immersions".

Of course newbies are most welcome!:)

With "Full realism" you actually can choose depending on your own experience.
It´s not a "Tonnage-chase" but an immersion game (not played online).
This makes it easier also for the ones for example not used to manual targeting.

You can have Auto targeting "on" but we encourage trying full manual. Part from that, most boxes should be ticked as batt recharging, repair times, fuel consumption etc etc etc.....

OLC:s Ubermod is popular among some as is the normal man-targeting for NYGM + GWX.

With "realism" we also include the way orders are given, upgrade status, torpedo loadout and the life at the flottillien.

Tactics and procedures are also given via the flottillien. Examples for this are:

-Tactics for aircraft attacks, as running decks awash in infested areas or avoiding gun duels with A/C.

-Under which conditions to remove externals

-Conditions reloading of torpedos => heavy weather means loading at greater depth than PD.

-Which types of ships to target. => No shooting gallery for DD:s and other escorts unless ordered to do so. Merchants are the important ones for the war effort.

-Not attacking harbours unless ordered.

Since we are not that many playing we only have 4 operational (1:st in Brest, 7:th St. Nazaire, 2:nd Lorient and 29:th La Spezia) BUT are expanding with the 11:th in Bergen + a short lived one with 30:th in Constanza.

We also have the 15:th Schnellbootflottillie for the ones eager to sail above the surface:lol: .

No "stock" gamers are allowed. Only GWX/NYGM or any other "supermod". The orders are written based upon how these mods script the situation so Stock won´t work.

Patrol are given a timespan in real life. Normally around 3 weeks to finish (6 for the long range flottillien) and there are communications boards at each flottillie managed by the Flottillienchef and his XO.

This makes us non-dependent of time zones over the globe and also allow the players to choose for themselves when to play. Real-life matters becoming a tad easier this way compared to online-gaming.

Orders are written by the Flottillienchef and posted at a certain date. These contain assigned patrol zones, torpedo loadout, replenishment restrictions, communication scedules and avaliable upgrades + intelligence and new tactics/doctrines if any.

Sometimes we have used specially written JSGME compatible campaign-addon files as the "Python" resupply ship during operation "Kapstadt" (later included in GWX2.1) and the U-459 Milchkuh operating close to bermuda during the early phses of oper "Paukenschlag" before it moved to the S Atlantic as scripted in GWX and NYGM.

You keep a "Soldbuch" in a special database showing all you need as Name, Birthdate, where born, Awards, number of patrols, career history, tonnage, rank + what uboot and how its equpped, commissoned etc etc.

You also use this database for posting KTB:s. In here you can report Ship type, ship name, where sunk, tonnage + adding any comments as if being sunk:lol: .

We play "DiD" => Dead is Dead . If buying the farm you are gone and not supposed to restart from the latest save! We have an honour system here. The boat/kaleun will end up honoured on the "wall of fame";)

On the other hand, if sunk you just create a new "persona" in the "Radio room" and are given a new boat + flottillie assignment. Easy! This way we hope to keep the losses at a realistic rate.

After each patrol, the flottillienchefs will evaluate your results and Promote/award you according to this. We have a clear system for managing this.
There is also a "hearing/court marshal" phenomena that we role-play from time to time. => FUN!:D

And Gruber (an old WaW-veteran), thanks for the kind words. Sorry about that hand but I assume you will recover completely and of course always welcome back.

So! Go to the link and register at the database (drupal site) This you make only once. Confirmation on acceptance on that site can take some time but that wont stop you from going to the "radio room" (=forum) and make a second registration to get in there as well and we will help you there getting all set up.

Welcome!!! :D :D :D

I play as U-44 Wolfgang Kutzner.

That looks very promising indeed for the ones looking for a wolfpack play online.

We had that in mind but it grew too large to manage together with what we already have. I think I will register myself!;)

Cheers

However, I have a question nagging me: How are discrepancies between the WaW3 patrols timeframe and the dates of the current patrol in the SH3 game itself are worked out?

Example, from the patrol grid "patrol #13" should be from September to November 1942. However, my 13th patrol in the game won't necessarily be in that timeframe... :-?

I know we used to fiddle around with the dates in the files for little things like that. Dunno if that still happens:up:

Drakken, not sure I understand what you are saying. You do a one-day patrol to establish the initial SH3 saved game folder, then use SH3 Commander to set the number of days you spend in port so that you leave port on the start date of the next WaW patrol.

An example; if the previous WaW patrol period was January to end of March 1941, and you got into port from that patrol on the last day of February ( you came home early because you had exhausted all your torpedoes or fuel ), you would set your number of days in port to 31 so that come the next WaW patrol period ( April to end of June ) the sailing date in your game would be April 1st.

The orders to actually start each patrol period comes from WaWs BdU and FdU admins, of which Gozo is one.

Hope this helps, but you can get a lot more help over at the WaW forums if you need it.

Dead easy Drakken, and a terrific little utility. I wouldn't even consider playing SH3 without it now.

It will be just fine. Mohr´s new persona (kptlt. Matsmann) is to be the XO for the new 30:th flotilla in the Black Sea.;)

Very true Lange. Also never mind what SHIII says about new equipment, awards or promotions....All is administred via the WaW Admin.

Also, the 15:th Schnellbootflottillie should have been up and running soon.

Good little bump, time for more people to come join us. Its nothing big as far as committment goes either, a few weeks to carry out a single patrol - who here (bsides the 1x players) can't do that!!

In the Wolves at War MODs wiki page (http://wolvesatwar.org/wiki/index.php?title=Wolves_at_War_MODS) there are the supermods (NYGM and GWX) listed together with the Longer Repair Times mod.
Does this mean the LRT mod is compatible with both of the supermods?

I'm thinking of installing SHIII again after a long break and trying out a WaW patrol which would require me to install one of the supermods if I understood correctly. It may sound ridiculous but the LRT mod is more important for me than a GWX or NYGM mod, so I need to know if it is compatible with at least one of the supermods.

Oh really? I thought it was the other way round.
Okay then I'll try it out and maybe sign up for the next WaW patrol :ping:
