View Full Version : Do the Japs ever give up??

I'm currently undergoing a rather heinous depth charge attack by a loan Auxilery Sub-chaser near the Ceram Sea. At first I thought he was a merchant and was tearing towards him at Flank speed. I realised what he was when he began taking evasive maneuvers but he was far enough away to enable me to get deep.

I'm playing the game real time and this attack has been going on coming upto an hour now. He finds me on ASDIC, then loses me, drops a few charges then everything is quiet, then a few sporadic pings, then more charges etc.

I'm wondering if he's going to run out of ammo or just give up trying to sink me. I'm zigging all over the place to present as little profile of my sub for his ASDIC.

I'm in a Narwhal class boat, at 350ft, I dare not go any deeper than this.

Any chances of him giving up?? Because I could rely on the British in SH3 to pole off when they couldn't find me after a while. Do the Japs do the same?

Cheers guys :)

Well i guess that if the jap captain never sinks your sub, he is gonna stab a katana up his guts. The Brits never did that...japs are too devoted sometimes  . Seriously now, try silent running and leave the area. Launch decoys as well.

You're in a Narwhal class boat eh? don't they have two deck guns? I'd battle surface and blow that little sub chaser out of the water :arrgh!:

The late war configuration does, indeed have 2 deck guns, but I believe the one in TMO only has one as it's not possible to control 2 deck guns due to a hardcode issue.

Here's my advice. He's an Aux. SUbchaser. Surface and just simply out run him. His only real weapon against you are his depth charges, and little good they'll do him when your fleeing at flanks, and you could always deck gun him as you run a zig-zag away. I think your in a worse position by diving and dodging DC's then just running on the surface. I'm not sure if they even have deck guns.

As I understand it the AI controls one of the guns and you have to control the other.

My Narwhal has two deck guns, i've let the AI use control them both when I blew a merchant out the water. With two deck guns, sinking merchants is ALOT faster :)

Anyway, I managed to evade that little sod, but surfacing is a bad idea as on the front of his boat he has a medium calibre naval gun. I've been on the recieving end of that before and its not pretty. No, i'd rather take my chances by diving and evading :)

Didn't know the little buggers had a naval gun on the front, I've never seen him use it..glad you told me before he clobbered me and I found out the hard way. :rotfl:
