Computer ProblemI have a problem that just started regarding Silent Hunter 3 & 4 and frame rates:

While running SH3 or SH4 in single play or MP mode; frame rates start out in the 50's and drop to 2 then back up to 30's then back to 2; creating alot of lag or even stoppage of video. not freeze. Just tremendous lagging.

I have cleaned the video card fan and cooling fins.
Cleaned the processor fan and cooling fins.
Cleaned the power supply fans.

My video card is a BFG Nvidia Based GeForce 6800 GSOC AGP 256 MB
My Processor is a AMD Barton 3000
Power Supply is a ANTEC 550 watt
Video drivers updated/tryied.
Memory (3 Gig) Checked for tightness in board slots.
Fan Speeds monitored and no big changes in speeds.
Temps being monitored for motherboard and CPU. No problems in that area noted.
Anisotrpic filtering is in "application controlled" mode.
Vsync is enabled.
Windows SP3 totally removed.
SH3 & SH4 uninstalled and reloaded.
Search & Destroy ran and all spybots removed.
Virus scan done. No virus' found.
End-It-All ran and made no differences. Still Bad lagging to 2 FPS.

This just started doing this yesterday after no problems for a couple years.
SH3 & SH4 are stock, no mods and patched to 1.4 only.

Any one have any suggestions.

Have you checked your memory RAM stick/s?
maybe they're not attached correctly

I had the same problem (for me it happened when I went from 1.4 to 1.5). I managed to get around the problem by turning off the anisotropic filtering for sh4.exe in the nvidia control panel.

Going for a combination of lower anti aliasing and anisotropic filtering also worked - I went for the other thing (higher AA, no AF) as it looks a lot better imo.

Did you try turning on Vsync in the game's graphical options? Mine will stutter if I don't have Vsync enabled.

go download a freeware spyware search program (spybot search and destroy) and run it. Afterwards take a look at your running programs (alt+ctrl+delete). http://www.duggmirror.com/software/Tweak_XP_for_gaming/

Have you installed anything new in the past couple days? I'm going to Daytona for a weeks vacation so I wont be able to reply, but whenever I have issues like this those are the first things I check.

If that is clean, then check hardware. Hardware is usually not at fault when FPS jump around like that, it's usually software related.

Good luck,
Joe
