Hi everybody.
I'm just getting back into SHIII, I'm about to install it after I post this up. What's everybody running as far as patches and mods these days? I've been away for a while and I was hoping some of you could recommend some good stuff.:)

You missed everything! The game is over. Germany lost the war. Nothing to see anymore, go home, get a life.
:rotfl:
Sorry. How long exactly has it been since you were around. GWX 2.1 is the last full version of the biggest supermod - its creators are moving on to SH4. There is a brand new version of NYGM, a new version of WAC and some cool mods inspired by SH4 - lifeboats abandoning ship, water flowing out of the vent-holes, new merchants being built, new tools enabling modders to create all kinds of new things.
Probably best to just take a look around the main SH3 forum here and the Mods forum and see what's what.
Welcome back!:sunny:

Dammit! We lost the war? Well, I always figured we would...:hmm:
I can't say exactly when I stopped playing, but it has been over a year for sure. Maybe a year and a half. Maybe even two years. I've been very busy in the past year and a half, but more than anything I guess I just lost interest in subsims.
SHIV is not for me. I am partial to U-boats. So I think I will just keep playing SHIII until there's a new and even better U-boat sim. (Heck, I was still playing AotD when SHIII first came out)
I can't remember what mods were out when I was still playing. I don't care too much for fancy graphics as my computer is rather dated at this point and I doubt it can handle much else. (Pentium 4 at 2.79 GHz, 512MB of RAM, NVIDIA GeForce 5200 128MB video card) What I really care about is realism.
From what I can tell GWX 2.1 looks pretty good, I guess. I can't really figure out what NYGM does... or WAC for that matter... Is there a Wiki or someplace that gives a breakdown of what these mods do? I can't believe I am this lost.
BTW, thanks for the quick reply.

They both have their own sticky threads on the SH3 Mods forum. NYGM is a little more hardcore oriented than any of the others. It started as an offshoot of the original Real U-Boat mod, but has progressed far beyond that great beginning. WAC is a totally different project, dedicated to accurately recreating the different historical battles in one campaign. It even starts with the shelling of Gdansk and Gdynia by Schleswig-Holstein, including a good model of that pre-dreadnought battleship!
As for SH4, the new U-boat add-on has opened the door for development of German campaigns. There is already Operation Monsun, which not only fixes the Indian Ocean campaign supplied with the add-on, but also has first-level Mediterranean and Atlantic campaigns as well. And, the GWX team is getting ready to recreate that mod for SH4.
All-in-all, the future is bright in the subsim world.

Okay, I have GWX 2.1 installed now.
I want to get SHIII Commander installed now, but I am a little confused about how to do this properly.
The newest version of Commander that I can find is 3.1. Is that correct? What about the GWX 2.1 files for it? I can only find the GWX 2.1 files for Commander 3.0. Is it okay to use those or do I need to find the files specific to the 3.1 release of Commander?
Could someone please break this all down for me?

The changes from SH3 Commander 3.0 to 3.1 are relatively minor. The GWX files are still valid.
