OK the games works and update fine but when i get ready to do the tutorials it will load but when it gets to the screen that says please wait Windows Vista pops up a message saying silent hunter 4 has stop responding and it trys to search for a solution. I have tried to reinstall the game with no success. I have tried running it as administrator. I wanna do the tutorials bc i have not played any other Sh's and i really dont know what im doing

Like I say Im not sure of the particulars but everybody asks what you
just did and everybody answers what I just did.

this raises a fair point though.

advice for the new subsimmer.

1.read the newbie guides.
2.prior to posting a question in a new thread
always always always use the forum search
first. almost every question has already been
asked dozens of times. if you dont find it then
post it.
3.let modders mod. read all the readme's in a mod.
it will save you taking up the modders next five
weeks with questions they answered prior to release.

that at least will do for a start.
again welcome aboard

Welcome Josh!

Mush is smart, he makes a good point.
That being said, Vista sucks and good luck with sh4.

If it still doesn't work, please post your system specs and describe all the background programs and/ autoupdaters you have running. Lots of computer-genius types here who are friendly and willing to help, I know.

As I have said before.
You can have my XP when you pry it from my cold dead fingers.

And if the site search doesn't find it, try using Google's "search this site". It does a good job, too.

And welcome aboard:arrgh!:

Hi:

Which Vista edition do you have ? 32? or 64?

If 64: then you need to have it installed in the Program x86 directory.

You don't need to run as administrator.

You don't need any compatibility mode.

Video card drivers and Direct X are current ...right?

You do need enough memory. I wouldn't want to try with less than 4Gb but you might get by with 2. When the sims stops running open and check Task Manger to see if you are out of or very low on memory. chances are good that you are.

I just doesn't make sense that you can run anything but the tutorials...they are just "special" single missions. If you can run any single mission then the tutorials (Tutorials= SUB School..Right?) should run.

What mods have you installed? Any problem I have ever had with Vista/SH4 was mod related. Jerk the offending mod and SH4 goes back to running fine and dandy.

If you have 32 bit Vista then I don't know what to tell you. I never saw the point in 32 Vista...might as well have stayed with old XP.

Good luck!

When you install the game, make sure you let SH4 install direct X 9. Vista runs DX10 but the game needs to install DX 9 so it can work.

josh2007
07-17-08, 08:06 PM
yes i have DX9 because i let SH4 install it but i think i might have also installed DX10 for another game?? is there a way to check

Digital_Trucker
07-17-08, 08:13 PM
No need to check on the DX10, you can have both installed at the same time. As long as you have installed DX9, you should be OK in that department.

oo well i letted SH4 install mine so anything else??

ok i have tried to install it in a different folder than the program files but still no luck....how would i tell ya all my system specs?
In Vista, the easiest way to bring up the run dialog is the shortcut key (windows key + r). The other way is more complicated so I'll wait till you tell me if the works or not. If it does (and it should) type in the command prompt "dxdiag".

This will bring up your Direct X diagnostic window. Inside the dxdiag window at the bottom is a "Save All Information" button. Click that, save the txt file somewhere you can access it, and then upload it, or edit it (pulling out only important data" and post that.

Here's an image of what the DXdiag box looks like just to make sure you are in the same place as I'm talking about.

Good luck,

In your original post, you said the game works. Do you mean it starts up and gets to the menu ok, or do you mean you can play missions or career fine, but then have troubles with the tutorials? If you can only get to the menu then this may be the reason... (if you can play missions but not tutorials, then it's something all together different then your system I should think.)

That's an intergrated video chipset. I'm not sure, but I don't think intergrated is supported. :-?
Edit** At least Intel intergrated chipsets. If it were an ATI or Nvidia chipset it just might work because those are basicly the exact same chipset as on external cards only they share* system memory.

Nah Phrozin, yoo're correct. That Intel integrated video chipset is screwin' the pooch for him.

Josh, you really need a new video card in there. You can check Newegg.com as they have some great prices on video cards, but you will also want to check your motherboard for what kind of slots you have, as mst video cards are PCI-E, and you don't want to waste your time and or money buying something you can't use.

Depending on what you can spend, try to get at least a 512 mb video card, here's the link to get some smokin' deals on some great vid cards you can hopefully use:

Lol this is quite funny as i planned on updating my graphic card anyway lol. I play many games so i think i should have a good graphics card but i dont even know how to start. I dont know much about the insides of computers. I know that I have expansion slots on the bottom of my computer at the bottom like you know where the modem and crap goes (lol i dont think i know what im talking about) can someone help me out?

EDIT: Also i would like to be able to buy it somewhere local because i really cant buy stuff off the internet

Ok, as far as AGP (accelerated graphics port) goes this is what one looks like. (It's the brown one. Notice the bar in the middle of the slot. On a pci slot it will be more to the end then in the middle.)

http://www.my-pc-help.com/Portals/0/tech_dict_images/agp_slot.jpg

as far as PCI-E goes it looks like the blue one at the bottom.

http://images.bit-tech.net/content_images/2008/04/early_look_gigabyte_ga-p45-ds5/gigabyte4-8.jpg

if you can tell me which model of computer you have here (http://support.dell.com/support/topics/global.aspx/support/product_support/product_support_productfamily?c=us&l=en&product_family=Dimension&s=gen) I can probably figure out if you have AGP or PCI as long as you have not installed a new motherboard since you bought it.

Sorry to butt in, but as far as I can tell it has neither PCI-E nor AGP. No way to plug in a nice GFX card unless you're willing to settle for a PCI one... and trust me, you don't want to do that. Sorry. :(

Arclight you are correct, it only has 3 PCI slots. http://www.dealtime.com/xPF-Dell-Dell-Dimension-B110-Desktop-Computer-Cel-2-53GHz-256MB-80GB-DB110L1

The only thing I could suggest is you either purchase and install a motherboard, or purchase a new computer. The PCI version of the video cards (not the PCI-E x16 version) are not very fast due to the availible bus bandwidth and can actually net an increase of only 1-5 fps over onboard just because of that. (The 1-5 fps is just a number range to show the small increase instead of a large increase like it should be.)

Given the fact that you are using a Celeron and Ultra DMA hard drives, I would suggest upgrading to a pentium or amd athlon 64 x2 (or phenom if you have gobs of cash laying around) and a motherboard that has 3 MB SATA.

Cheapest ok AMD system

250GB SATA Hard Drive (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822136113)

Asus Motherboard (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131172) (Note** I show you a AM2/AM2+ socket type because I was trying to save you money. You can however add about $20.00 USD and get the newer and upgradeable AM2/AM2+ socket type)

Sapphire ATI HD 3650 512MB 128 Bit DDR2 (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814102726)

Wintec AmpX 2GB (1GB x 2) DDR2 800 ram (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820161229)

AMD Athlon 64 X2 4400+ 2.3GHz (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103213)

Total: $272.95 (S&H extra)

Cheapest Intel system

250GB SATA Hard Drive (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822136113)

Gigabyte LGA775 socket type (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128079)

Wintec AmpX 2GB (1GB x 2) DDR2 800 ram (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820161229)

Intel Core 2 Duo 2.4GHz (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819115032)

total: $329.95 (S&H extra)

I'm sure there are better systems out there, a few might even be cheaper but this is what I found at newegg. Now it's all up to you my friend.

I was going to say that his video memory is only 92M which isn't good enough.

You folks ROCK for helping this fellow out with so much willingness to go an extra bit. I thank you for him and all equipment noobees.

I hope that isn't a new system that he described. Personally, I hate to upgrade equipment just to play a game.

Having said that, when you go to buy get the best vid card you can afford. Don't go for bargains or selloffs. Salesmen have fooled me in the past. Do some research on them before you choose.:damn:

Raymond,

Good words of wisdom, that we all should heed. Even those of us who have built our own rigs, sometimes get duped into something we didn't really want.
