I haven't had the same problem, but I've got a guess. The game files are placed in two places. After your uninstall you should look the places up and delete what you don't want to keep (dunno 'bout you but I like to hang on to screen shots ... they're like nerd vacation photos or something).

One of the places is the game directory - it's probably located under program files\ubi\silent hunter 4 or something similar (I mostly pick another directory so I'm not quite sure).

The other is in your documents folder, probably something like C:\Documents and Settings\<user name>\My Documents\SH4 (if you run XP that is).

There is a folder also in MY DOCUMENTS. It has SH4 as the label. Delete that. Go into the program files and find UBI folder. Inside, there will be the SH4 folder. Although you deleted the game off the disc or add/remove program, these two files are left behind. So, remove the game, delete the folder in MY DOCUMENTS folder. Find the UBI folder in your programs folder. Open it and delete SH4 in there as well. Reinstall the game.

I use a small prog' called 'Gadwin Printscreen' this keeps all my screenshots in a folder in my 'MyDocuments'. I've used this always and never had any problems ever with it. Very good shots, it takes too.

Follow the Procedure, precisely step-by-step and including the several re-boots, described in this thread/link:
http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=133290

If you have VISTA, make all the installations into a folder other than "Program Files". I have two folders called "My Games" and "My Applications". With Vista, by default all files within the "Program Files" folder are generally Read-Only, so that as Games/Appplications such as SH try to write/update files, it doesn't work. (There's a way to overcome the default setup, but it's just as easy to create the separate new Folders).

Good Luck
