I keep getting duds on a T3 tanker with my D2. Just simple 90 degree shots. I'm still playing with updates so I can see my torps hitting the tanker. I just keep getting duds
from the last 10 fired at a T3 only 2 did their job.

Am playing vanilla 1.5

Hmm, I have only recently started playing SH4 with Uboat expansion but have sunk 4 t3's in my first patrol

didn't have any duds, fired 2 eels per ship, 1 magnetic, depth 11.8 meters or so aimed just in front of the engines, 1 impact, 4 meters aimed just before the bridge...

I only needed a 3rd eel for 1 of them...

this is just what I've found out in 1 patrol :arrgh!: I had a lot more trouble with smaller ships for some reason :-?

Today I fired a Mag torp at a T3 around 11m deep and it did go boom but the impacts fail lots. anywhere 2m -6m deep all where duds

German magnetic detonators are much more reliable than the American ones. I use magnetic all the time; all the torpedoes, if they use contact, will get a dud if the angle of incidence when it hits the ship is less than 50 degrees.

Having now done a 2nd patrol, and sunk another 2 T3 tankers, I'd have to say a magnetic shot is the way to go, hit them right and it only takes 1 eel

Yups with mag torps it less hard but contact ones do fail a lot
