SH4 busted?

I went ahead and bought the U-boat add-on, installed it and started it up. 1st try it froze up when I tried to load torpedo training, and subsequent tries yield a funky looking screen when it should be loading. No mods installed yet, just plain jane 1.5. Anybody know what could be wrong?

Do you have it loaded over SHIV 1.4 ?

Let's start with the basics...what are you running the game on? Vid card and such? Vista or XP? We start from there. ;)

You coud try lowering\raisibg hardware acceleration for the GFX card

Control Panel\display\settings\advanced\Troubleshoot tab

I'm running on an AMD XP64 3600+, Radeon X1600pro (POS card if you ask me), Windows XP Home, 2 gig's Ram. I have SH set to run at 1400x900 (I think), just got a new widescreen monitor. Everything was working fine, until I installed 1.5. I finally reinstalled, and I still got the funky screen, but I finally saw the menu. I started pawing around blindly, since my cursor was a huge square blob of white, I managed to set SH to run windowed. Restarted SH, and everything worked but I could barely see anything in the window. I'm gonna try turning the windowed mode off, and see if it works right.

You computer has enough to run it for sure. I was running it with a X1300 without much issue. Just for craps and giggles, did you do a fresh install of SH4 and then 1.5?

Did you install the media player codecs?

That does seem a hardware accelaration problem though... your problem is only with SH4?

Another tip: Make sure your graphics settings are set to application controlled...

Does it include all previous patches? 1.4 etc or is this just a number (1.5) UBI has given U-Boat Missions addon?

1.5 is all inclusive, you can apply it over stock 1.0 SH4 and it works. I just did that a few days ago when I finally got around to picking up the 1.5/U Boat expansion, which required a reinstall, as I had taken SH4 off the hard drive for some reason.

1. If I understand your reply correctly; 1.5 does include previous patches through 1.4.
2. Before I install 1.5 UBM; I need to uninstall (complete removal of all components, files, folders etc)SH4 and do a clean re-install of it. Then load 1.5 UBM addon.

Stick to basics.

Clean uninstall of SH-4 and Addon 1.5

Install SH-4 and let it install dx9 and Acrobat EVEN if you already have it installed.

Then Patch 1.4

Try game. If it works fine.

Install Addon 1.5

Try game again. If it works You have a base line.

Then you can start modding with JSGME . :D

Start Fresh. Don't waste your time trying to heal a dead horse.

I dunno, I really don't like my x1600, I had to buy an aftermarket fan for it so it wouldn't melt itself and it seems pretty damned mediocre at best. Think I'm gonna get me an Nvidia here on of these days.

AGP or PCI-E ? Either way TigerDirect is the way to go.

I have a Gigabyte 8800GTS 512: thought it had reference clocks of 650(core)/1625(shaders)/970(memory), but the thing came with default clocks at 700/1675/1000. The only thing the 640 does better is memory bandwith, but with the higher clocks (1000mhz) the 512 bridges the gap and goes beyond it. Since my card came with those clocks at default without being some overclocked "special edition", I imagine any 512 should be able to reach it.

Some more opinions would be nice, but I think you're better of with the 512.

Best of both worlds
Especially with Op Monsoon on the 1.5 install :up:
