Ha, I beat subman1 to this:lol: .

So if Obama gets elected, Jesse Jackson will get this position: [insert position here] in the obama whitehouse?

Good job beating subman to the punch. I was beginning to think he had some kind of contract wit subsim to provide thread fodder

Fortunately for Mr. Jackson, Obama is not going to win. I'm tired of hearing that there is some doubt as to the outcome of the election.
As much as I hate to say it, there are a lot of swing voters who will not vote for him just because he is black. Not that I agree with any of his views or think that he would be a good prez, but the aforementioned will be what keeps a lot of people on McCain's side or will simply cause them not to vote.
The same force that makes soccer moms lock their doors when they stop at an intersection where a black guy is standing will influence their vote. And they may be nice and really decent people who would never think of discriminating against someone because of their skin, or anything else, and yet in the privacy of the booth they will rationalize their vote over to McCain, probably without even realizing why.
Further exacerbating Obama's problem is the fact that whites have a higher voter turnout rate. So do Republicans.

I would kind of like to see a black president, but I would rather it were Colin Powell.

I think it's really funny to see all these lefty race-baiters get caught in their own web. :rotfl: I am really sick of the racial politics here (in the US, not subsim). And I'm frankly sick of the whole PC movement. It's just a subversive way of stifling free speeech. So, to have someone who keeps fanning the flames of racial hatred/distrust get burned; priceless.:sunny:

Teddy Roosevelt once said that hyphenated Americanism could destroy this country. People need to stop thinking of themselves and their fellow citizens as "Black-Americans" or "Irish-Americans" or "Mexican-Americans" etc and start seeing themselves as just plain old "Amercians".

O'Reilly said last night he had chosen not to air comments that would have been even more damaging to Jackson.

Best advice I've heard in a while.

Unfortunately, the trend seems to be towards individual identification and not assimilation. (sp? damn double consenants) Funny thing is, a lot of -Americans have never even been to the regions they hyphenate their nationality with.
Furthermore, what about a person who was born in England but has Indian heritage? Or a person who was born in S.Africa but is the descendant of Dutch colonists and is white? I find it hard to believe that either of them would have an easy time of claiming themselves to be European or African -American respectively.
Most of this PC garbage serves only to widen the gaps between cultures and races, rather than narrow it. I call it the "Catholic Schoolgirl phenomenon" (sry Catholics, no offense. Please let me know if I am out of place.) The more you make natural tendencies of people taboo or try to control their lifestyles the more impassioned and contrary they become, despite what you may see them doing under scrutiny of others.

Now I've gone and ranted on too long again. Well, thanks for reading this and other overly verbose posts :D

I agree about the hyphens. I've actually heard people refer to African-Americans and then be corrected with "No, he's African. Not American at all."

I've always thought Jesse Jackson was a nutjob, grandstander and pot-stirrer. Funny that he was corrected by Al Sharpton, who's even worse.

You're new still. Your posts aren't overly long at all. Read some of Skybird's epics.

LMAO. This world needs people like him. And Subman. Controversey for the sake of controversey is a great way for people to challenge their assumptions and consider the perspectives of others, even if they are ridiculous sometimes.

edit- btw guys that last bit isn't directed against you, but maybe some of the people who report what you post. I need to work on the klarity uv my righting.

Silly story. In terms of racial politics, Obama and Jackson aren't on the same page. This will annoy Jackson. Oh well.

Who is? The people trying to make natural tendencies taboo, or the people becoming impassioned or contrary because of it? I'd call the first group Republicans, and the second Libertarians.

But get involved with a Catholic-schooled girl and you'll see what I mean.

I was only commenting on the "Registered Democrat" point, not your comparisons. I'm not a member of any party, and have been accused of being any and all of the above, depending on which of my views are being espoused at the moment.

And yes, religious training makes girls horny. I know this from experience.

Amen to that!!! I am also sick of this PC bull. Last time I checked Africa and America are two differrent continents so unless you can spread your legs across a few thousand miles you are either/or but you can't be both! Take your pick. I came from country where racism is almost non-existent and it blows my mind that someone can be offended by being called "black". Well I am being called "white" all the times and I don't give a rat's a** about it (even though I am brown-ish complexion:D).

So from now on if anybody calls me anyhing but "brown" I will sue them until "they turn black...." :D (FYI that is a saying in my country loosely meaning "...until they are blown to smithereens" but the pun was totally intended).

I guess I need to put a laughing icon or such because I tend to forget that sarcasm does not lend well to this medium. It was more of a commentary towards "PC" then the CSGP. But since you bring it up SS: natural tendencies of people, is it in the biological sense or the created sense in concepts such as laws, mores, morality? Taking it to the basest nature, homo sapien sapien is a primate, that is highly adaptable to it's environment. In that sense, procreation can be considered a natural tendency. Yet, "pro choice" a banner issue the Democratic party flies rather proudly is contrary to procreation.

Darwin was chastised for his theory of Evolution which posited a very plausible explanation of how things came into being. National health care and welfare, which is another banner issue for the democrats flies in the face of nature: survival of the fittest.

And Libertarians argue just for argument's sake.

Neither side is right. But that is what happens when we forget that though homo sapien sapien is highly evolved and can use reasoning, they are still animals....

True, but on the other hand it could be argued that the Republican party tries to ban, or at least limit, any natural function that they deem "immoral".

I completely agree, but for entirely different reasons. But we risk wandering from the topic, so I'll leave it for now.
