GWX (2.1)

Here at subsim.com, I click 'downloads' and then Silent Hunter III, and I see at the top, 'gwx 2.1'...
I click either of the links offered and I get to a donation page.
I see no way to proceed to the download without having to first "put in a number greater than 0" to the donation.

Clicking on sigs and stuff, I have found gwx2.1 links, but they list more than one, ten or so, all different sizes... the question becomes, which one is GWX 2.1 and which one if a virus?

When GWX2 was released, they helped out SubSim by letting Neal have it a week or two early for a download release. After that came the general release.

You can get it for free from the GWX page, or by clicking the links in the sigs of any GWX member.

No need to get excited, and no need to cast aspersions. Neal runs a good site, and most of the goodies are free (and cheap at twice the price).

Oh, and the GWX links are organized into 7 separate downloads for 2.0 because the thing almost doubles the size of the game. 2.2 gigabytes, to be exact. You can try to download it all in one big bite, or you can do it the way they've got it set up. 2.1 is only one download. And none of them is, or carries, a virus.

You will need to download every file on that page. So from there make 8 downloads.

As for the 2.1 update... silly me forgot to upload it. Doing so now. When it does upload, it will be here > http://hosted.filefront.com/NavigatorPen/2213586

Once you have them all, you put them all into a folder called GWX 2 or whatever the heck you want to call it. Double click the GWX2.exe and it will install GWX 2.0 for you. Just remember to make sure you have a clean install of 1.4b before you do.

Once 2.0 goes in, just double click the GWX21.exe and that will then update it to GWX 2.1

Also as Steve said, when GWX 2.0 was initially released it was done to benefit subsim.com by raising some money for the website (I donated too! :D yay me!), after a week period it was thrown open to all. GWX is not, and never has been, or ever will be payware.

Even though GWX x.xxx is FREEWARE, it doesn't hurt to donate a little to Subsim. :hmm:

A better question, why did I return to this contaminated website, I remember from the last time I was here - Subsim doesn't seem to check its links at all. :down:

Its also not Subsims responsibility to check external links.. its up to the community to police itself - if you find something dodgy from a link on this site then I'm sure if you let the administrators know it would be removed swiftly.

I'm sure the admins would love to be able to run this site 24 hours a day, but its just not realistic, which means everyone has a role to play in making this place a nice place to come, and having a bad attitude about it really doesn't help.

We don't pretend to see everything here, so if you could share where that link you state above came from, I could check it out. Also, there is a FAQ\Rules link here at SUBSIM, http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/faq.phpmembers need to read it and post according to what's allowed as a general rule.
Plus as mentioned the Mod is free and was on a donation only for a short period.

STEP ONE: go here and click "Continue to file front" if you see a link that says "Continue to file front"

download the following files:

GWX1 bin

GWX2 bin

GWX3 bin

GWX4 bin

GWX 5 bin

GWX6 bin

GWX7 bin

GWX2.exe

STEP THREE:

save all of those files you just downloaded into a folder on your desktop entitled GWX, now run the file "GWX2.exe"

your version of sh3 should now be modded to GWX 2

edit: if you want to update to version 2.1

download the file GWX21.exe and run it.
