View Full Version : U Boat Atlantic Campaign?

When 1.5 was announced, my impression was that it would be at least six months, and probably a lot longer, before we had a full U Boat Atlantic campaign available within Silent Hunter 4.
So how far along is an Atlantic campaign? Personally, playing with a U Boat in the Indian Ocean is of no interest to me, but if we're anywhere near getting the immersion that the GWX guys and others created in the Atlantic in SH3 then that is an exciting proposition.
Anyone have an overview of this? I've been too busy assembling new furniture and painting walls to be around here much lately. :D
The only thing I'm allowed to tell you is to actually enjoy the stock U-Boote missions version or Lurker's operation Monsun mod, cause nothing from us will come before sometime next year... ;)
Definately, I'm afraid.

There will be Atlantic mods out there before GWX 4
I have no doubt about that
We intend to convert everything to SH4 standards
Not just import over so it works
The SH4 engine is much better than its older SH3 brother so would be a shame to waste those improvements
But that takes time :damn:
Similary the campaign will be rewritten to make use of the SH4 campaign loading system
Again takes time
There is a Med mod released or just about to be released by Xantrokoles

And of course Lurker Op Monsoon which also has Atlantic missions during Drum beat too

Research Operation Monsun. If you see a ship or a convoy it's because it was there at that date. No randomly generated enemy ship movement! It's well worth checking out and is a quality mod.

Not to quibble but yes there are randomly generated enemy ship movements
lol
Still it IS a quality mod which is why I mentioned it in my reply
AND the only mod you can get to sail in the Altlantic AFAIK
Worth checking out

I thought Operation Monsun already had some Atlantic content? Have not been keeping up here for a while, but from a quick browse, it looks like Lurker has added more and more content. Considering he is no stranger to creating Atlantic theatre operations, I wouldn't be surprised if OM develops into something bigger over time. There already appears to be a number of previously SH3 only modders enjoying the SH4 engine and contributing many of the building block, that will bring this threads request closer.
(I'm not prodding you Lurker :p)
Just 2 cents.... splitting the MOD forums into PTO and U-Boat will slow anything in this department. No idea what the fighting has been here, but it's really sad to see.
Constructive and courteous communication will speed all your dreams.

...or Lurker's Operation Drumbeat campaigns, or his Type II career in the North Sea, or his Type II career in the Black Sea, or his Type XXIII campaigns...
Current 1.5 U-boat campaigns are hardly limited to the Indian Ocean, stock or otherwise.
Lurkers work is astonishing. DL and go on patrol ASAP, you will not be disappointed.
Its very well done and supported.

Wait some time,
i´m sure that we can have a whole WWII submarine war using the sh4 engine
with the pacific, atlantic/caribbean and med you have a 80/90 % covered.
is a huge work but it could be done.

thats for sure...
but is the gwx-team still alive? and is it working on a new superubermod called "gwx4" ?...that would be great. here i offer my skills as 3d and 2d artist! also worked on atlantiksharks, which had the same target:
"convert all the good improvements from sh3 to sh4 - as to its fabulous engine!"

I am not speaking for them, just giving my own opinion here. The GW would never just slavishly copy old work to a new environment. Just as they work to continually improve GWX in the SH3 environment, they will bring a campaign and mod to SH4 that exploits the strengths and minimizes the weaknesses of the new platform. It would be a big mistake to sell them short. They are much better than that.
They will go dark so they can work in peace. They will release when the mod is good and ready regardless of speculation, player desires for early release or other modders' output. And I guarantee that any speculations about their untimely demise are premature.

You are totally Correct about this. I am sure everyone in the team will do his/her best to make the new mod the best mod ever in the Silent Hunter series (and that includes GWX as well) :yep:

Jimbo, human kind and planet earth - expect You and other Wolves to push SH4 dream trough...
We can and will still keep SH3 patrols, but future survival of SH planet depends on "Gray" brains in new environment...

I for one am looking forward to GWX on SH4.
The wait will crease me, but it'll be worth it. It always has been, if SH3 is anything to go on. There is some great content for the U-Boat side though, the mods section here is a real credit to Subsim.
