So, I completed my first patrol commanding the USS Stingray, sinking 5 cargo ships and a tanker for some 13,500 tons of shipping in total. Not bad for a first run.

The Naval Board of Admirals must think differently though, they saw fit, after only ONE patrol, to award me the Medal of Honor for "extroadinary heroism while in command of the Stingray" hmmmm yes.....extroadinary heroism indeed.

Rather than smiling at recieving such a medal, I actually felt my shoulders sink. In no way did I deserve a MOH for that patrol. A Bronze Star or Silver Star would have sufficed.

That 13-hour depth charging you endured must have been erased from your memory because of the shock, it happens sometimes...

Historically, 1st patrols weren't the best for new skippers, especially at the start of the war. Perhaps you did better than you thought. Maybe you are playing at full realism in an S boat. Maybe that sunk tanker prevented a fleet from deploying. Are you bragging or complaining?

Kinda having a moan I guess. I didn't start my career at the start of the war, I chose a May 42 starting to my career. And it just seems impossible a skipper would get the MOH after one patrol. It just doesn't seem realistic, but I'm aware the games medal awarding system is quite flakey.

My last career I had 5 patrols in a row where all I got was Bronze star after bronze star. this is my first MOH.

If you peek under the hood too long, you'll find hundreds of reasons to hate the game. It's better to focus on the parts of the game you like and enjoy it.
The fact that you get a different experience each time you play speaks to the depth coded into the game. That in itself is rare in gaming.

Next time you play a mission keep an angry squirrel taped to your genitals. If you get a Medal of Honor everyone would agree that you deserve it!

I honestly cannot remember how many times I've gotten the medal of honor, the game hands them out so often. Just keep in mind that it is a game, and the medal awards are not at all realistic! I mean, it's not as if you get court-martialed and disgraced if you really screw up either :p

I basically pay no attention to the medals.

Hmm.

My first mission ever I was trying to figure out the time compression. I failed to understand why the speed was suddenly reduced to 1x. Annoyed I spammed the + key, yet I didn't get it over 16x before it was reduced to 1x again.

Desperately trying to figure out what did it, I spammed up to 16x once more, heard a "WE'RE TAKING DAMAGE!" and got back to 1x. Pressing F5 I found out that 2/3 of my boat was now standing on the rocky beach while the last 1/3 was still in the water.

Once I'd given up trying to back out, I pressed the "dock" icon (I was still near port). I got a message that I was incarcerated for the rest of the war and would get court martialled once the rest of the navy was done fighting. And that was the end of a glorious career!

Maybe I'm just particularly talented.
