Gentlemen and esteemed Subsimmers,

I Have been a long time PC gamer, I wouldn't play games any other way. and I have always been one for realism. And one of the best ways I have found to make things real is to feel like you are right in the thick of things. thus I have always tried to find ways to add more immersion, one of those ways has been to always use the largest monitor I could find and afford.

Until flat screens I used a 21 inch. and always liked the size of everything, but the other day my wife and I went out and bought a 57 inch big screen and of course I made sure it had the HDMI connections in the back as I have DVI connections on my computer. I then went out and bought a HDMI/DVI cord to connect the two. It then took me 6 hours of trial and error but I was finally able to get full screen 1900x1600 in perfect resolution, my PC is a quad core something or other dual 8800gtx 3 gig of ram gaming machine...

The sight that I beheld was something to talk of for generations never before I had felt so immersed on a submarine (short of standing on the Batfish) My crew were the same size I was, and the powerful ship cutting through the waves... I just can't describe it enough and don't even get me started on being in the control room and walking around in it. Well Gentlemen I'm off to the south pacific, if you never here from me again know I was sunk very happy.

(Edit) And here are the images you asked for, Now keep in mind I'm a cop not a photographer, I took more but they were even more blurry, or had a worse flash in them than these.

Oh yeah by the way, if you see a random Englishman park a halftrack in your front room, he's just coming to visit ¬_¬

I'm blessed with a good quality projector projecting a huge arse screen on the wall. It's 5ft tall by 11ft wide and it has done some amazing things. It's an absolute riot to play games on especially with the surround sound going. I normally play SH4 or Need For Speed Pro Street on it and save my other games for my 19" LCD's. However I did play CoD4 on it just to see how intense the surround sound can get and it's downright creepy!

Gotta love projectors :) Anyways I know how you feel it's a wonderfully awesome feeling! I cant wait for someone to make the ultimate Gaming Station for U-Boats (like they take real cockpits from airplanes for flight simulators). THat'd be NUTS.

Have fun.

Good riddance.

I hate you.

Just a little.:rotfl:

It sounds like a great experience. Honestly, I'm only a little green with envy. Sounds like you have a lot of good times ahead.:sunny:

Mr. Hamm, how about a pic so we can drool on our keyboards some more?

Wow, John, that's great. Did you manage to patch your sound through you home theatre too? Now all we need is simulators to support Dolby surround and the immersion is total.

I agree, how about snapping some pictures of your "gaming heaven"?

Personally I smoke a joint, pretend that the coffee I'm drinking is rationed and move my face to within 4cm of the monitor. I'd love to play some SH4 or IL2 Sturmovik on that 57" though!

Have fun!

Heh! Tbh I'm quite fond of that handle!:sunny:

I assume that it means that "her way" is not passively watching you sink cargo ships while occasionally expressing respect for a particularly well aimed torpedo?

Can you explain how you got the rez up to 1900? I have a 42 inch plasma and have the cable for it. I just never tried it. I have a duo core 4 gigs ram and an ATI xt1950xtx video card.

I found this to be to much even for dual graphics card after lengthy play I tuned it down to something more along the lines of what a PC might be 1600x900 but as far as how did I get it I dont know it was just an option in my nvidia set up once it was connected to the TV it also indicated that it was the native resolution for it. but the waves moved very slow!! LOL However while in the control room things moved just fine. I'm very satisfied with the 1600x900 though I honestly can't see a change in quality from the 1900 but it plays completely smooth.

Yes that would be the best thing in the world for immersion I had no idea they had dropped in price so much last time I saw them (about a year ago in a American Airlines catalog) they were $2000.00 I guess I know what I'm getting for my B-day this august!

The kitty can be a fierce and fearsome foe! A few fragmentation grenades will mostly keep it at bay though.
