..to pull in at Midway and top off with fuel oil when operating out of Pearl in the early war?
It would seem the prudent thing to do, considering the distance to the war zone (mission assignment location) and the range capability of the boats, but is there a penalty? ...like...loss of renown?....or too big of a time lapse for a Midway fuel only refit?
(this is my first Pearl Harbour career. All the others have been with the Asiatic fleet))
I do it all the time. It was done that way historically too.
Just watch out for the gooney birds!

Do it ALL the time outbound and inbound from ANY patrol.

Sure thing, that's partly what Midway was there for.

Look on your map - F3 key.
Points where can fill up/tap off them diesel tanks have a BLUE Anchor with a grey icon. Refitting Torpedoes outside your home port is another story.
Another good place to get your steel tube semi-repaired.

Good... I thought putting in at Midway would be a highly commendable prudence.

using waystations like that allows you to run bits of your journey at full speed, instead of the way more economic standard speed, and that saves you gobs of time. most definately worth it.

Midway was a common stopping ground, most submarines stopped there to top off with fuel and whatnot.
