Wait, Wait, does that mean that if the Ape commits a crime, he has the right to defend himself in the trial?

This is ridiculous.
Most apes are more intelligent than most of the humans I deal with on a daily basis. They ought to give people the right to fling poo at each other.

Humans are now equals with Apes.

This would probably piss off more apes than humans, know you're on the same level as them. Not in America. People are still several notches above, though Europe hates the idea that Americans are real people over here and are doing everything in their power to drag us down to their level.
The funny part is, they have decades to go before they drag us down to ape level! :p Europe is already there! Hahahahaha!

As a general point, it may be time for some of us to give the rhetoric a bit of a rest. A little too much in too short a time. Remember, this is not a political forum, and a little dab will do ya'.

WTF??? I've never heard about this, and I should know as I live in Austria. BTW what's so bad about outlawing the use of apes in medical experiments and for use in filming in Spain? And by what logic is acknowledging the right to live free for a species, making the human equal to apes? For all I know there are quite a few species that are forbidden to import to the US, because they are endangered by extinction and should live free in their natural habitat, so I guess that makes them by your logic also equal to humans.
We don't herd them like kettle, to slaughter them, nor do we drink their milk, so the only purpose they are kept here is to either a) exploit them or b) to keep them from becoming extinct. Judging from the article, it's much of a, and some of b. So why shouldn't they be set free if they aren't held appropriate, or the keepers be penalized if they don't provide an appropriate habitat for them? Just because they are animals, they should continue suffering or what?
