Hi guys I’m having a problem with my Silent Hunter III.
I recently installed GWX 2.1 and I’m in my third mission (okt. 1939) and I have just sunk a battleship (Queen Elizabeth type) in a foggy weather very close range <400 m with a heavy bombing noise.
Just after the sinking I had to go, so I saved the game but I have not been able to get in to it again.
The program seems to be working OK but just be fore the text “Not so long ago . . . “ should disappear I get a massage box with the following massage
SilentHunter 3: she3.exe - Application Error
The instruction at "0x004ba5ea" referenced memory at "0x00000000". The
memory could not be "read". Click on OK to terminate the program.
Has anyone seen this problem before ?

Yup, that's why I joined the forum. I had the exact same problem.
Im sorry to say this, but you fallen victim to the Save Game Bug. It mostly occures when you save near a ship, land, or submerged. Altough this isin't a rule, it's safer to save while on the surface, away from land, and no ships in sight.
And before you ask, that save is propably gone for good. But try loading an earlier one, maybe you'll get lucky and manage to restore at least some progress.
Again, sorry to hear that. I lost a HMS Rodney (30.000 tones) due to this bug.

Ah yes, strangely this bug almost never occurs when nothing has happened during the patrol, although sometimes even then it goes wrong.
Lightstalker's advise is good, don't save near land, ships, submerged, also don't save within say 50km of a ship you just sunk or it may reappear, and then not be worth any credit when you sink it again....
SH3 is quirky sometimes... :-?
With that out of the way, Welcome to the forum Kaleun Kristinn
don't let the bugs get you down, enjoy the GWXperience, go out there and sink them all :arrgh!:

Many things in life can't be repeated, once gone.
This is one of them.

It's :
Houston, we got a problem.
Looks like your O2 tanks need a spelllar chekar. :D
Geez.
Save your game, go back, run it for a few minutes, save again. IF you have a CTD return to the earlir save, you lose only a few minutes game time. :D

Bet Firefox 3.0 can NOT handle this situation:
Wanted to type in:
"I helped my Uncle Jack off a horse"
Accidently typed in as:
"I helped my uncle jack off a horse"
Can it handle that, Rifleman?
The Spelling seems fine in both cases, egh?
:) :p

Did you know that early in the 20th century, there was a gadget sold under the trade name of "Dan Patch" that would keep an horse from masturbating? It would be attached on Sunday when the family rode the wagon to church.
That would stop that nasty Uncle Jack!

As said in previous posts, the main culperate for this type of error is saving while submerged. Try and avoid it if possible and you shouldn't have too many problems.
BTW Welcome aboard!

Is it for this reason that I'm actually in my 10th consecutiv CTD ?
Because I save surfaced in the middle of a big convoy with many ships in flame ???
But what can I do now ?
Resume an older save before the attack and repeat my lucky destruction of the escort ?????

@ Chisum,
Yup, sounds like you lost that one. I find with GWX that trying to reload a saved game with loads of activity going on nearby overwhelms the CPU/RAM/whatever and causes CTD. Try reloading the prevoius save when you have enough 'real time' to see it through to the end.

This is the biggest frustration with the game, GWX or stock, then combine it with the fact that it takes 10 minutes to load and it really gets frustrating.
I have noticed that if you revert to the previously saved game, then you're usually in good shape.
One thing I have noticed as well, or maybe its just wishful thinking is that after I pull up a saved game that has CTD a few times, if I change something Ex depth, or course or speed, or crew management, sometimes it will go ahead and not crash.
Mine crashes everytime I tried to load the last saved, so as mentioned I save as Im approaching a victim, then I'll go ahead and start the attack, and save again. Should it crash at the attack, I have the saved game whenI was approaching the target.
Clear as mud? Good:stare:
I swear, I must be the luckiest guy around (crosses fingers, toes, eyes, ect....). In my recent patrol, I've been saveing games in the midst of a convoy, while being depth charged, and the game resumes as usual so far. I know the agreed upon rules for gamesaves, but when crap happens at 12:00 midnight, and you need to be up at 5:00AM for work, you have little choice but to cross your fingers and save the game:yep: No problems yet.... :hmm:

I've created a thread about the fact that my SHIII has stopped working altogether.
I've changed nothing, saved on the surface away from anything (as far as I know), yet now the game won't load at all....
:damn: :damn: :damn: :damn:

Well, in order to avoid CTD you should also shut off your gramophone before saving. Save bug is quite weird so be careful with your game saves!
Damned...
I will soon think that it was easier in real life !
:-?
GRRRRRR....
11th CTD and this time I resume very far away from the convoy(not yet spotted).
Any suggest ??

One question:
You save on exsisting save (save as) or a new?
No one can help me ?
If I must let pass the convoy to haven't CTD it will be probably better that I play an other game.
:(
Finally I think I found the solution: "Spyware Terminator" was probably the reason of my 11 CTD...
Hope to help other kaleun.
