OK what dose this mean, I've just run my AVG 8.0 which came back with 30 warning counts.

All 30 of them have this line ending in all different numbers -

HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\ActiveX Compatibily\

There all classed as Registry Keys.
Most are Adware.Gengeric and some are AdwareTitanShieldAntispyware

I have moved all of them to the virus vault for now.

I have also ran my Ad-Aware 2008 and came back clear. :-?

So can anyone here throw some light on this one?

Doesn't 8.0 cost money?

I'm getting tired of their daily updates; especially when today's made my game crash.

No mate 8.0 is free. http://www.download.com/3120-20_4.html?qt=avg&tag=srch&tg=dl-20

@STEED

Download this (30 day trial) and have a good clearout of the registry files.

Uhmmm, I wouldn't mess with much in that registry key. Not sure exactly what it would want remove without you telling us, but anything with a DWORD of 0x00000400 is already deactivated - it might make your search easier.

AVG may have a false positive there, or it may be a harmful app listed. Need more info.

I think Subman hit the nail on the head, they're false positives. I just googled your error and came across this:

http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/lofiversion/index.php/t146069.html

It seems AVG 8 is incompatible with some scanners like spyware blaster/adaware etc., which will give out false alarms.

AVG have now definitely acknowledged that this issue will be fixed when they release their Service Pack 1 for AVG8 in the near future.

Looks like your right there on the money with this one. :yep:

Sounds like AVG is to lazy to fix this problem, just to mention I never got this with the 7.5 version so it looks like us folk with the 8.0 version have been right royally stuffed. It dose look like its picking up on my Ad-Ware 2008 along with Spybot Search & Destroy. I must admit I'm lucky it's only 30 warnings, on Kiwi_2005 links some people were getting hundred of odd warnings.

Come on AVG get your act together and sort this out. :stare:

Thanks guys for all your help.

Quick update

I decided to dump AVG as I don't believe they will ever sort the problem out, I now got avast.

Running a scan at the moment interesting to see the results on this one.

Great place to test your anti virus but not for me, I'm a coward but safe coward.

BTW: avast came back all clear and no warnings.

And if my 14 months goes OK with them I will re-register with them.

If it's not too late before using a registry cleaner (RegCure is good but be careful), run regedit & export all, the file will be around 70megs, then run the registry cleaner, if there are problems then atleast you can import the saved version, I've never actually had to import yet so I can't vouch that it works but see no reason why it shouldn't!:yep:
