This video is of a truly impressive rFactor mod, which uses GT Legends` models. The amount of enhancements is staggering, its basically GT Legends 2. (You`ll need the GT Legends dvd to play it, it looks for it when you start rFactor with this mod)

You can buy rFactor on a cd, yes, but I bought it online here:

http://www.rfactor.net/index.php?page=downloads (dont bother with the demo, as no mods work with it, and the default cars are crap) But you will also need GT Legends. You dont have to install it, its just the installer for HistorX checks for the GT Legends DVD when you install the mod, since many of the models are from GT Legends. There are other cars in the mod, scratch built, and the team will add more. The BMW 2002 being one of them! Its a staggering amount of cars, I had no chanse of getting them all in the video.

Oh, and its DX9, so XP will do.

I still play GPL with the newest mods, unsurpassed imo.

I have to disagree, sir.

Gotta love the race sim community. Like a game but slightly prefer a new one? No problem, someone will port the older one over to your favored title soon enough.:D

Yes, kind off, but not in this case. Only the models themselves are from GT Legends. Physics, sounds and massive damage is new.

Warning, this is misleading. I also bought the G25 and thought I owned R-Factor only to find out that it's just the demo!

Yes, but the demo is the full game, after you unlock it. (for a small fee)

Great footage as always, JS. If I could race in the '30s and '50s I'd be all over it.

And if not, expect your oldie to be given a patch to run with the newest OSs. I'm playing Grand Prix Legends (1998) on a high-power XP machine and lovin' it!

I have to agree. GPL is still the most fun for me due to the old tracks, old cars w/o aerodynamics, no traction control and me driving.

Been thinking about giving GPL a try, as I like the cars of the era. Is it a whole different version of the game you need, to run on XP, or just a patch?

Almost. That Monaco shot is great, but shows that the track is still the modern version.

Still, I'd love to see (and hear) a video.

As for GPL, I have a copy, but it wouldn't run very well on my poor old machine, and I don't have the money for a wheel and pedals yet for my current one.

It's been a while but this is the list I have for updates and mods.

1. gpl12_us.exe
Patch 1.2
2. gpl_cpufix_us.exe
Fast CPU fix
3. gpl_d3d.exe
Non 3dfx rasterizer

Mods

1. GPLEA_Lot67v102.EXE
A makeover for the Lotus
2. GPLEA_Fer67v12.exe
A makeover for the Ferrari

I have some track add-ons as installed as well. One other thing is a change to a config file to allow force feedback functionality. That one I like as you know when your breaking traction.

I don't use Filefront or such but I can try to make the files available if needed.

Well, after upgrading my ati x850xt card to a Nvidia 8800gt, GPL is broken. Works upto going in sim and then you don't get the whole screen. Just a corner of it, but it is still working otherwise. I can't drive with eye patches.

Much obliged Stabiz! Found the OpenGL fix file I needed to change fron D3D to OpenGL and the problem is now gone, yayy. Now if you can show me how to fix SH3 and DC I'll be way happy. Those two have corrupted menus (2D overlays I think), otherwise they're OK. Again, they were fine before the card upgrade. I've been looking all over Subsim, Ubisoft, Nvidia and searches in general, plus asking.

GPL runs fine on my last 2 systems. It's of course necessary to get all the updates, the CPU speed fix and OpenGL patch for higher resolutions. The engine must have been several years ahead of its time, even today it still looks great for an 11 years old game.

Anyway, I've looked at these newer sims and they dont give me that feeling.

So... is this an rFactor mod or GPL mod?

stabiz
09-02-08, 05:34 PM
rFactor. But you will need GT Legends as well, since the mod uses models from that game. The physics are totally reworked, its a magical mod.

So I wanted to know about this new sim and played and modded the whole weekend. Tbh I didn't like most mods, but the ones that stabiz posted ( VM Le Mans and the Historic GTTC ) are great. Mind you need GTL DVD for the GT mod, because it lets you play all cars from Simbin in rFactor (how generous!)

http://www.rfactorcentral.com/detail.cfm?ID=Historic%20GT%20%26%20Touring%20Cars

The Le Mans track is amust have: afaik the best track I have seen in a sim, there was something special about the 70s and this mod captures it:

http://www.virtua-lm.com/lemans/

Pure art. What a contrast to the bright annoying colors in most other tracks / games. I also liked Road America and the F1 '79 mod.

Conclusion: Oob rFactor looks pretty gamey and too colorful but with the best mods available I like it. No it doesn't make GPL obsolete, but it's close, and I'm happy I finally tried it.

Should run on XP and even Vista just fine. There are a couple of design teams which are working on full-length versions of the Targa Florio and the Isle of Man TT course, tracks the likes of which you won't see in any other sim. Should be out in a few months.

That damned curve always sneaks up on me, too. You know to be careful on Eau Rouge, but that one looks so...easy....when you're coming in to it...
