MKB-42 - best gun of WWII and precursor to the AK-47.

The rest is still neat.

Actually most of the experimental rifles remind me of the G-3 rather than the AK-47.
Which is hardly a suprise as Mr. Heckler and Mr. Koch worked for Mauser in WW2.
But there's some really bad german in that article: "Wehrspartigewein" could mean "Wehrsportgewehr", which would be "military sports rifle".
But my favorite is this:
http://greyfalcon.us/picturesw/w24.jpg
3 kg Rollbombe. In order put the bowling skills of many germans to good use...
Actually it was a sapper weapon, for use against Bunkers, and came in various sizes up to 10 kgs.

The "Einstossflammenwerfer" had a worthy successor in oscurity with the "Handflammpatrone" of the Bundeswehr, some kind of oversized one shot flare gun that fired a phosphorous charge up to 30 meters. I've never seen one and I don't know anyone who has ever seen one, but supposedly this one-shot one hand flamethrower was in service until 2001. Maybe sapper units had them...

I noticed they didn't have the German "Cornner Shot" I saw on the History Channel. Basicly it was a MP-44 with a curved barrel attachment. There was a 90 degree one for CQB and a 30 degree one for shooting though the hatch of a tank. It even had a little periscope for aiming.

Speaking of Periscopes I like that Pazerfaust with a scope! I really could have use a few of those in the Pegusus Bridge mission in Call of Duty!

Don't forget the Vampir thermal imaging scope, designed for use with the Stg44.

Don't forget the Vampir thermal imaging scope, designed for use with the Stg44. Didn't the US devlop a simaler system around the same time?

Or it might have been a Low Light system like the old Starlight Scopes used in Vietnam. :hmm:

Had see a few of them before, but a couple were new to me.

I'm not sure but I wouldn't put the allies far behind in similar developments.

Nah, I don't get as excited by artillery. You might not get as excited, but for me, The artillery conquers, the infantry occupies.

Look at this piece of craftsmanship! Ain't it beautiful?

MG42 is a favourite - the principle is still being used in most medium machine guns to this day. The British General Purpose Machine Gun (GPMG) is a very close copy, as is the American M-60 with the same principle also being used in the SAW.

They lied a double railway line all the way from the Factory to Sevastopol and
Stalingrad so those giants could fire less than 50 shots at the Russians.

That was the idea behind the P.1500 (Drawing above). It was to take the same
cannon, but be more "mobile".

Not to mention the German M3, which is almost the same as the MG42 and still in use.

the most fascinating ww2 weapon for me even if it's just a rumour for now, is the
"UFO"

PLEASE NOTE: My intention was only to mention that rumor not to start
a quarrel about wether these existed or not.

Yes that thing is very similar to the MG42. It looks like a MG 42, fires 1200 rounds a minute and weights 12.5 kg (:dead:).

is it me or does that MG45 on that link look just like the MG42?

The MG45 was just an improved MG42.
Just look at the current MG3. It also looks very similar to the MG42.
