I'm currently in the Mediteranean sea, and stumbled upon a heavily escorted convoy.
However, the convoy consists of 1 small merchant, escorted by at least 4 or 5 Black Swan frigates. Could it be transporting some highly valuable cargo? Or a V.I.P.?
I've never seen a single ship being escorted by so many frigates before, it must be something worth the effort!

Not sure what it was transporting, but I sunk in nonetheless. Currently hiding from 5 frigates dropping DC's like confetti.

I think this Ubisoft meant by "fully dynamic campaign"!
It's so unpredictable, Churchill himself might on be that small merchant!
:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

Are you playing GWX... then I'm at a loss!
5 destroyers protecting a small merchant? Come on?

Let's wait someone more intelligible to come to enlighten us!:arrgh!:

In that case, Kptlt. Hanomag, good shooting! It must be enerving for the enemy to see an entire convoy dissapear. I hope you didn't find as much resistance from the escorts as I have, I'm still ducking DC's!

Good God Man! You've sunk the relief tea supplies for Malta! We will hound you now to the gates of hell if need be :arrgh!: To sink a ship of war implements is one thing, but to take away a mans tea, that is unforgiveable!! :stare:

Frank0001

Haha, it'd even be allright if Churchill himself was on, but a load of tea? Never!

I shook off the escorts now, leaving them with a few thousand pounds worth of depthcharges lost, and an angry commander, for losing his cup of tea!

But they are going to revenge that sooner or later, no matter what.
Expect huge-ass fleet of bombers attacking you very, very soon.
And if you survive that, they might just test their atom bomb on you.

So yeah, good luck with that :dead:

I'm now going to go, let's say, 500 miles away from you?
And try not to follow me! :stare:

An alternative explanation might be the simple fact that the merchant was travelling without escort, and a friendly task force happened to be headed the same direction.

I recently intercepted a british transmittion that said a load of tea was ordered for Field Marshal Montgomery. It was to be transported by a small merchant and transporting a seaman named......Dinsdale.:shifty: He apparently was sinking more ships then the Kriegsmarine was and so was entrusted with this small duty. They even provided a large escort for him to keep away the U-boats.

Or so they thought....

It could be, but they were sailing in an actual convoy. The merchant in the middle, with the frigates at its flanks, front and back. Just like you see on a regular convoy.
Or do task forces actually join up with lone merchants?

No, I don't think they did. And if they did I doubt it would be reflected in the game. I was just musing.

On the other hand, the idea came to me because on several ocassions the Japanese did just that. Their records show several cases of lone, or, at most, two merchants ending up with cruisers and destroyers running along with them for part of their journeys.

Just having fun.:sunny:

Hehe, well I would've let the merchant go if it was unescorted (2k ton? nah) But it seemed so important to be escorted by 5 frigates, I just had to sink it

DOH!

hmm, so where is the accompanying shipment of cucumber sandwiches? Someone might as well sink that too, since it's useless without the tea :D

It's just history's way making sure that Rommel does not survive World War II!

What you have seen and sunk is the ship carrying the first atom bomb. After loading the bomb stolen from turkey, the ship met with its escorts. The sinking of this ship was a serious reversal for Churchill and he was non too happy when Amwericans produced the bomb later.

Dont sink it!!!

Rumor has it that Honey Hornberg and the Stuttgart Steppers have been captured by the allies and are being transported to north africa where they will be forced to entertain allied scum!

If possible, sink the escorts, board the merchant and rescue Honey Hornberg and the Stuttgart Steppers... if you manage to complete this task it will be a most interesting cruise back home!

All of these theories and rumours have great merit and are both highly probable and entertaining.:D

However found a RL account of Type VII U-759 (KL R. Friedrich) encountering convoy TAG-70 in the Caribbean consisting of six escorts but only eight merchants. Friedrich sank a 9300 ton Dutchman and evaded the counterattack, this occuring in July 1943.

It´s a boobie trap, a small merchant empty and heavilly scorted, the the u-boat attack tha "valuable" cargo and then the scorts start to chase the submarine.

Remember that is the Med and the things could be a bit difficult in this small sea.

i had a very interesting patrol with my IX-B boat, and was frequent see the luftwaffe in action near malta and some small convoys with troop transports and landing ships.

i remember when i destroy a troop ship with deck gun fire :arrgh!:

Sink merchant immediately. Ship has new print of a Top Secret Tecnical Manual loaded.
Spies in Spain reported that this TM is called "Hustler Magazine".
Loss of this Prints will cause heavy negative efforts on Allied Troops.
