Is the HOI2 multiplayer any good?

How does it work anyway?

I hear some good things about it....

I've only played the spanish Civil Wat scenario though, and soundly trashed the Republicans in about 6 months game time

works fairly well, set speed to slow so you don't get too many things happening at once and pusing the game is for 30 seconds at a time by mutual consent...

Wouldn't want to play a full grand campaign though, unless I had oh, I don't know, a month to spare, and it would be far too easy for one of the alliances played by humans to win versus the rest, so you'd have to play against each other which makes for tough choices who to play...

Germany versus Russia is probably interesting, US as human player wouldn't be fun, too easy for US unless they can be taken out in 36, and only Japan can do that against an unprepared human player....

UK and Japan as humans could be interesting....:hmm:

I have started a '36 Campaign with Germany together with another guy (shared country).
In the pre-war years we shared the work and divided our responsibilities (for example I took care of the technology research, deployment of naval troops and so on). One month game time lasted about 30 minutes realtime, we started the war against Poland after 3 or 4 pre-war game sessions.
I am chief of the air force and navy, my parnter manages the army.
It is really fun but as you pointed out already it requires lots of lots of time.
When you share a country you are not limited to a single "station" like you might be used to from multi-station sessions in Dangerous Waters, anybody can order around anything...

Hmm, sounds like it's pretty good

I figured a full campaign would take way too long, and be completely unbalanced (What if each player takes a Major Power though?)

The trick when you play the 36 campaign in MP is to chose, either super powers or minor countries. I promise you, it's a lot of fun. There is an save option in MP so you can save the game and continue it later.

I've played the '36 campaign with 7 other guys online. It was a great way to kill time every sunday.
