Failed to patch sh3

I know this is a common issue players have experienced. I recently reinstalled my copy of sh3 again after playing sh4 for a bit, felt like going back to the uboats again. However im encountering the issue with the patch where you try and install the patch 1.1 and i get the following error -

This program cannot update the installed version of silent hutner 3 US DVD v1.0 because of the following reason C:\program files\ubisoft\silent hunter III\data\menu\de_menu.txt: unknown version

So upon getting this error I unistalled sh3 checked the my documents folder to delete the sh3 folder there - it wasn't there anyway, checked to delete the folder in program files - no need it wasn't there anyway after uninstall, deleted the single registry entry for sh3 reinstalled the game started it once to be sure then when i went to patch it to 1.1 it came up with the same error.

Seems strange that this is happening whenever I installed sh3 again i always peformed that check no problems the game usually worked. Guess i'll go back to the sh4 again for a while

Any suggestions?

If I didn't read your post too fast , I read that you patched the patch 1.1?
That's wrong buddy boy:lol: You must download the patch 1.v4b :yep: and be sure that you "regedit" all of the Sh3 files . My advice to you now is that you delete all of the sh3 files and re-install it from the beginning . A fresh &new install is the safest . Then you see your problems been solved:smug:

PS! YOU FOUND THE PATCH 1.v4b AT UBISOFT.

Actually sorry but i think you may have misunderstood the problem. I tried to install just the 1.4b patch as you suggested that was what you suggested right? but it came up with the same error incidently i know that you have to patch all the way up to version 1.4b incrementally as the 1.4b patch is not all inclusive. But i couldn't get it to patch to v1.1 even. as i said i performed all the necessary checks again after uninstalling again and removing the sh3 folder in my documents and program files and the registry. Then installed sh3 again and it still won't apply the patch or any patch for that matter.

There are 4 versions. Make sure you have the right one.

Thanks So let me get this right all i need is v1.4b dvd patch?

Ok so how do i get it to install coz not even 1.4b will install on my fresh copy of sh3

Hmm :hmm: , have you check that SH3 you have is maybe patched to 1.v4b ?? You see that the new version of SH3 is patched to 1.v4b :yep: You can check this out in the menu screen in the right lower corner of the screen . And by the way , ,have you " regedit " the files?? Sometimes those files hiding deep down in your system , I did that one time , forgot to "regedit" it properly and have a big troubled days:damn: Driving me nuts , almost throw the god damn computer right out of the window:stare:
if your dvd game is from 2005 then you have to patched it with 1.v4b , if it's newer then your game is automatically patched to 1.v4b:yep: Check this out first my friend :up: GOOD LUCK FRIEND

If you still have your version of v1.0, on your drive, I suggest you run the SH3 uninstaller program with the original disc inserted.

You should then see a screen with a number of options, one of which is Repair.

Pick this , and it will return your original install back to v1.0 without all the hassle of uninstalling and then reinstalling.

Run 1.4b patch only. If your original disc is definitely the US/DVD version, then obviously your patch version must be same.

If the patch still reports a problem with a single file, go to your v1.0 directory and delete that file only.

Then rerun the patch and it should take OK.

If it doesn't work, you may have the wrong patch, or you have a later version which comes already patched. However if the latter was the case, I reckon you would know.

Got the patch to install no probs I did what you suggested cheapskate didn't quite work thanks though coz it gave me an idea all i had to do was a modified version of what cheapskate suggested i installed the game again cut and pasted the offending files to the desktop installed the 1.4b patch then cut and pasted the now valid files back into the correct folder
