Israeli scientists who found a seed capsule of a date palm during archeological works at an ancient castle, have successfully brought it to life again. the plant is green, is well, and keeps on growing.

The seed is two-thousand years old.

That's what I call the power of life.

I remember ancient minicrabs, whose eggs can form capsules that survive for decades if not centuries. When the environment chnages and gets burned down, or a volcano erupts, the living crabs die, but the eggs are capable to survive even the most extreme conditioons this planet has to offer, including sulfur-saturated environments close to hot lava, and other examples of heavily intoxicated and upheated places. Put them back into some mild-tempered water a long time later, and minicrabs is what you get again.

Now consider how easily a human population is to be wiped out. Makes you think.

It never failed to amaze me when the rains would come to Bahrain and seemingly overnight, whole swathes of previously bare desert sand bristled with fresh green grass shoots. Small pools and ponds would form and trilobites dormant in the dry sand would hatch and engage in a breeding frenzy before all the water evaporated in a week or so. :hmm:
