I left surabave and off the e cpast of Luzon i hit 2 convoys on a colision course. as they muddled in a traffic jam , i had the best patrol of MY LIFE !!! ( it will never be better than this!) I sunk:
3 mogami cruisers
9 destroyers ( i hate these guys)
4 small passenger carriers ( some with all my aa ammo and all deck gun ammo at range after escorts gone)

(ALL IN 1 ACTION!!!) IT TOOK 2 REAL DAYS OF PAUSING AND PLOTTING AND PLAYING END ARROUND

boat needed a box of bandaids,,,,, but we got home.

NO BRASS BAND,, NO ADMIRAL TO GREET US,, ONLY A SILVER, 2 MEDALS FOR THE TROOPS AND NO PROMOTIONS FOR MY GALLENT CREW. i PUT THE ENTIRE BOAT IN FOR A SILVER STAR AND A UNIT PRESIDENTAL CITATION.

WHAT WE GOTTA DO, SAIL INTO TOYKO BAY AND BUGGER THE EMPERIOR???!!!!!

aaarrrrrrrrgggggggggggg !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The game likes it more if you complete the patrol areas assigned. Sinking the ships seems to be secondary. Just my observations.

yeah prolly
I had a 40K patroll on my first one in the assigned area and got a medal of honor

another campaign I killed some BB's (a yamato and somthing else) and they instantly gave me a balao after 1 patrol in a Gato

BBs (Especially a Yammy) are major tonnage, Therefore more Renown and more new subs

Hey man, the submarine force is top secret. That means that you don't exist. People who don't exist don't get newspaper headlines, brass bands, adoring women, etc. Any promotions or medals could take years to arrive. And skipper? I didn't say that...

You want accolades? Join the Kreigsmarine. But I hear they have their own problems...

Lol, keep patrolling and sooner or later you'll find something.

On my current career (3 patrols out of Brisbane so far) the largest ship I've encountered is a heavy cruiser. Although there was one time on patrol north of the Solomon Islands in Aug 1942 that I encountered an IJN TF, during which there were CVs and BBs along with the usual assortment of other vessels. All I sank from that encounter was a CA and a CVE.

Note that I have the Run Silent Run Deep campaign mod installed, and I was there on purpose. The Battle of the Eastern Solomons occured during that month.

All other sightings during my patrols have been (usually) DDs and merchants.

yea if you start getting 15+ contacts in a task force the BB's are in the middle....
lol the last one I saw dropped my FPS to 25 from 50-60 when they truned the lights on....

Speak for yourself. My name is prominently displayed in post offices and customs areas all over the country, and I spend my shore leave lounging with a bevy of topless island girls.

I fired the brass band. They didn't amuse me.

I'm just wondering, does the Musashi ever appears in the game?

Hmm... Isn't Yamato also the class of the ship? If so, the Musashi would simply be a Yamato-class dreadnought. Then, if you run into a Yamato, it could be either of the two big sisters.

Please correct me if I'm wrong. :hmm:

oh ok...so you don't bump into a Yamato or Musashi, you bump into a Yamato class right.
So you'll bump into two of them through the war if you're lucky?

Also I wonder if the differences of the two are modeled in the game, so at least giving some chance to determine which of the two you've sunk.

And if you get really lucky:

But I doubt you will see this in any MODs, this was stock. I was shooting at the Yamato in the back when the one in the front came in and took two of the hits. I had to go to the external camera, I didn't believe what I was seeing in my scope.

Ha **** that was good...so did you get them both?

I just realised they're both Yamato...:nope:

In sixteen cruises with the Kraken, so far I've seen two battleships, one of which I sank. This is no arcade game, at least in career mode. Most of the time when you see capital ships, it will be to wave at them as they steam by at 30 knots leaving you with no possible approach.

Of course you can take one of the included missions or produce your own encounter with the battleship of your choice. But isn't the rarity of a battleship or carrier encounter part of what makes it special to sink one?

But as far as the brass bands, you're otta luck, bub. Take out your fury on the Japanese and sink 'em all!

Definitly, if you ran into BB all the time the game would lose part of it's charm. Sometimes I'll go out on patrol thinking "this time I'm gonna hunt down a big taskforce", but after getting a report on a big convoy close by, heading in my direction I can't resist seizing the opportunity. And when I do come across a takforce, it's usually a DD with a transport, surrounded by 3 escorts. Can't wait to bag my first BB, CV, or even CVL or CA, it's one of the things that keeps driving me on.

Only to come back again with no brass bands.

Indeed. I remember getting really excited at the prospect of a cruiser kill the first time I got a 'heavy unit' flash traffic on RSRD. Didn't get the cruiser, but a nosy escort won't be bothering the IJN anymore, and though the encounter was a 'failure', it's one of my favorite SH4 moments.

If you really want a brass band, though, the one I sacked is looking for work in Honolulu.:arrgh!:
