Hi,

I am installing a fresh SH3 now in order to get the new GWX2.1. However everytime I am trying to install the patch 1.4b (took from Ubisoft itself and it is the good one) but it says when trying to install that patch : C:/Program Files/ubisoft/Silent Hunter III/data/Menu/en_help.txt: unknown version. I am following the instructions and I do not have Vista.

Any ideas

Thanks

There are two version to update the original sh31.0 to sh31.4. The one for the US copy and another one for EUROPE copy. Make sure you have the good one! And if you say it is the good one, then i believe you. So here is the problem

ok, the next thing to do is to manualy delete any SH3 files that are left from old installs
and remove any SH3 registary entries.

Do you need me to talk you through that?

*edit* After fully uninstalling SH3.

1) How long ago did you buy this copy? newer copies come already patched.

2) If you've had it awhile, how long ago did you uninstall it? Did you clean out everything in the UBISoft folder? If you don't have SH4 or anything else in there, I recommend tossing out the entire folder. It'll make a new one. Also, did you delete the SH3 folder it created in My Documents? A reinstall requires that all traces of the original be gone.

3) If you've done all that, feel free to tell me to shut up. Or better yet, ignore the old man in the sailor suit behind the curtain.

Have heard of this problem before, although I haven't had it happen to me!

The answer as I remember, was to delete the file the patch doesn't recognise i.e.eng_help.txt from your base installation.

Then when you reapply the patch, it won't find anything to complain about. and will simply write in its own version of the file.

If that doesn't work, then maybe you have the wrong patch or something more radical ( along the lines Steve suggests ) will be needed.

Hope this helps!!

Thanks guys!
Thank you for your quick answers.
You are the best!

I solved my problem by just deleting that small file.

Thank you again
