Quagmire

I've finally sunk my "white whale". After getting bored in 1944 sighting nothing but lone merchants, I decided to start a new campaign in 1942. This time I went looking for trouble. Thats right, I headed right for the Bungo Suido. Here is the story of the USS Whale...
After poking my bow into the Bungo Straight for a few hours my radar picked up a contact that was headed directly to my position. We dove to periscope depth but I decided to stay shallow as he approached since this skipper was looking for a fight. He came charging right for me. This guy is good, he started pinging at 2000 yards.

Open all stern tubes. Lets give him a salvo and see if we get lucky.

We fired a salvo of four fish and ol' Pete twisted and turned away from the first three. However as he evaded the third fish he walked right into the fourth. This Japanese sailor is gonna need a change of underwear!

But there was no explosion! Was it a dud??? No, even though I set all my fish to run above 5 ft depth this fish decided to run way deep. I'll have to mention this to the boys back at Pearl... :hmm:

With all four stern tubes empty I dive for the deep. My crew prepares for the worst as ol' Pete makes a pinpoint attack run. This is gonna hurt...

As luck would have it, all ahead flank and left full rudder slid the Whale out from under Pete's last can. That was close!

Knowing that the seas were calm I order ballast blown so that I could quickly pop up to periscope depth. Pete's super natural abilities would have kept me down forever so I decided to fight back. Fortunately this is when Pete made his fatal mistake. Just as I poked my scope above the waves he began to cross my bow.

I quickly locked him up in my scope, fired Tube 1 at a 20 degree offset to the left and hoped for the best.

As luck would have it this fish ran true. Sayonara Bungo-San!

What a beautiful sight! GOD BLESS AMERICA!!!
