Friendly or enemy? There are friendly ones sailing in and out of harbors, and dogging certain convoys. They will attack the convoys with their deck guns. Not much use, but they draw off the escorts sometimes.

All this is with GWX, of course.

They are also responsible for the circular map contacts you sometimes get. Once I crossed paths with a VII as we both headed out to our patrol grids-me due W, him SW. About 2 days later, on his general track, I got a circular contact.

Allied subs can also attack your fellow ships and you... but only with deckguns. I've spotted several British subs in their convoys, safeguarding their stuff. Some are surfaced, some are submerged. I've even sunk a few Russian and British subs to boot.

I posted awhile back about a simular event.

I thought it was one of ours comeing home.

That is until the S.O.B started shooting at me.:arrgh!:

Went to PD and got behind him, blew ballast and got on the surface quick.

It was like chaseing a snake.

I used every DG round but, finally got the bugger.:D

740 tons :smug:

what do you mean with a "circular contact"?

There shape of the contact on the map is totally dependant on the lead vessel in the formation,

If it's a boat, it is square, but if it's a submarine, it will be circular. http://www.psionguild.org/forums/images/smilies/wolfsmilies/thumbsup.gif

Umm that's incorrect, unless you're discussing short range single contacts. I'm talking about friendly AI subs who stumble across a convoy and then radio in its position, and you see it (convoy) as a circle on the map, 300-500-2000 km or whatever away from your position. Has nothing to do with an enemy sub running point on the convoy (something which I've never seen BTW). You'll notice a lot more of them as the war goes on (esp. if like me you expanded Opportunity Contacts in contacts.cfg to something higher than default 300 km).

If I'm being whooshed then that's another matter. :88)

Then check the scripting in the campaign and don't forget to post here that you found friendly AI subs patrolling known/suspected convoy routes which would obviously account for the circular contact markers http://www.psionguild.org/forums/images/smilies/wolfsmilies/pirate.gif
