Hi There!

I'm playing a new campaign. early 1940. This time I got a patrol area near the orkneys, but for whatever reason, the naval traffic there was almost nil. After days and days of patrol in the assigned grid, I got only a coastal vessel, it was then that I receive this GWX radio message about a kondor plane seeing high naval traffic in Dunkirk so i decide to abandon my patrol grid and race to Dunkirk....

On the way I saved the game...

and then....

when I approach the Dunkirk coastal waters.... CRASH TO DESKTOP!!!

and it happens everytime I reload the game!

Approaching at 30 km of Dunkirk on this time of the year is instant CTD :damn: ,

has anyone else found this problem??

I'm playing with GWX 2.1, latest lifeboat mod, open hatches, corrected diving angles 16 Km environment... and not much more!

The computer is a Intel Pentium Quad Duo with 2 MB Ram and the graphic card is an Nvidia 8800, everything smoothly running on WinXP.

Are you not sure your hitting a mine and.....forget that it's a CTD your experiencing.

Take out the 3rd party mods and see if that changes anything.

a MINE.... CTD?? :o :o :o

Well, cannot say you don't have a sense of humour! :yep:

On the other hand can't imagine what the mods I have have to see with CTD when I can approach virtually any other harbour in the game without CTD. looks to me that the issue is likely to be related to the spawning of units/GWX scenario when I am approaching dunkirk at the time of BEF evacuation? :hmm:

Now, I would really appreciate if anyone with GWX 2.1 would like to sail near dunkirk on the days arround April 30 1940 to see if I am the only one with CTD when reaching arround 30 km of Dunkirk ;)

:hmm: Historically the action in Dunkerque started around May 27, -40.
I am outside Bergen at the 20´th of May, will order the course to be set for
Dunkerque... but I will not go too close, have found myself deep into minefields there before:dead:

Yes I do have quite a good sense of humour actually.

You need it on occasion when answering the same issues time and time again.

GWX was tested more extensively prior to release than you will probably ever realise.

The problem you have encountered was not replicated during testing.

You are now starting to approach within rendering range of the 32km SH3 world your processor is dealing with.

You have at least one 3rd party mod installed (nothing to do with GWX or the testing thereof).

Feck only knows how much is "and not much more"

There are two possibilities here:

1) You hit a mine (read at least two replies here) which for whatever unknown factor caused your rig to CTD (other stuff running in the background perhaps)

or

2) You have added something that is clashing with GWX.

Good Luck http://www.psionguild.org/forums/images/smilies/wolfsmilies/pirate.gif

... but it's not about Dunkirk.
When I enter 32km range of large convoy just East of Nova Scotia, SHIII crashes.
Depth is >1000m, so no mines.
I tried with or without time compression, on surface and under, on bridge (F4) or
looking at map (F5). And different courses of approach, as well.
Same result.
So I think there is something inherent to that convoy and the way SHIII processes it.

I've installed SHIII+GWX clean, according to doc, nothing else.

Can I do anything with this, other than start from the base save? I.e. change settings or such?

Is it known bug? Was it noticed prior to GWX? Are there any limitations on the number of units in convoy, in SHIII? In GWX?

Appreciate your feedback guys.

System specs please.
You would be amazed at how many times and reasons
your system may be at fault!!

Ask FIREWALL about memory mismatch for an example.

After staying in the area from May 27-June 1, -40 I have no problems to report:up:
There seems to be far less mines in the area now:yep:

I did 4 things:
1) installed fresh DirectX;
2) loaded another campaign and saved it;
3) went into Museum;
4) waited adrift until convoy enters 32km.

I don't know which one helps, but crash has gone.

I was able to see this convoy and touch it.
Indeed it's a big one, 23 ships and ~10 escorts.

O M G Jimbuna tells you politely that probably your computer processor cannot handle all the Graphical and ship information it has to all at once when approaching a large change I.E a convoy or a new port and /or striking a mine so it just crashes back to the desktop:down: and all you people do is take the P$£ss:nope: …… I am not anything to do with GWX so I can say it …… your Computer is crap that’s why:yep:

Hey here is a thing :know: if your computer crashes when you go near Dunkirk then.......DONT GO THERE!!! problem solved :88)

EDIT>>>> 2 mb of RAM are you sure dont you meen 2 Gb

Edit 2>>> Intel "Pentium" Quad Duo What the flic is this Intel Quad or an Intel Duo Processor or have you got 5 processors running. 2mb of ram it must take SH3 hours to load up. Nvidia 8800 ???GT GTS onboard ram=250mb or 512mb or 1gb???. all running on Windows XP ... Nvidia 8 Series graphic's cards are made for Widows Vista but yes the can work with XP but not as good. have you added all this to an older machine if so did you upgrade the system boards Bios drivers and have you updated the DiskDrive an older drive will not be able to keep up with that new stuff .....
