Since we are doing threads today about embassy's from around the world, I'd like to point out that all of them are pretty ugly.
Here is a pic of the German Embassy in DC. A child could have done better with tinker toys:

The French, not so bad. Looks like a professional office building but it's still pretty ugly:

Swiss embassy - can't decide if I like it or hate it. I think I hate it:

Now the Brits know how to make something look good:

Definitely going with the Brits. I like the old school design.
I like the Swiss one.

Gotta hand it to the Brits on this one! I do kind of like the German one, though. Just curious, how does the American embassies look in each respective country above?

The US embassy in here looks alot like that British one in DC.:D
Here's some in Ottawa...
US
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:AmbassadeUSAottawahiver.JPG
horrid, over-fortified, Orwellian. Hardly a neighbourly embassy. I don't understand how the US can build something like that right smack downtown near the Canadian parliament (I believe it's physically the closest embassy to the parliament) and not be a little wary of inspiring a negative, paranoid and over-dominating image in Canadians.
Russia
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Russian_Embassy_in_Ottawa.JPG
not much better but at least not as huge and arrogant, and at least that entrance is a bit... cheerful?
China
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:China%2C_Ottawa.JPG
not very Chinese-looking, hardly has right character. Looks like an old monastery
High Commission of the UK
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:UK_High_Commission_in_Canada.JPG
Ew. Bad, bad and ugly office block.
France
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:France%2C_Ottawa.jpg
Not the best example of French architecture. But at least it looks somewhat French.
Germany
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:German_Embassy_in_Ottawa.JPG
Pretty banal I would say
Japan
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Japan%2C_Ottawa.JPG
Shy and uninteresting
Algeria
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Algeria%2C_Ottawa.JPG
Beautiful building, but nothing Algerian about it
Cuba
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Cuba%2C_Ottawa.JPG
A Cold War bunker (way to beat the paranoid-ness of the American one )
Czech Republic
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Czech_Republic%2C_Ottawa.JPG
Modest
Hungary
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Hungary%2C_Ottawa.JPG
Really beautiful building there!
India
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:India%2C_Ottawa.JPG
Cuba meets Japan meets UK. not cool.
Indonesia
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Indonesia%2C_Ottawa.JPG
Not as bad as it looks on this photo actually. I've been in it, it's actually alright. Very open.
Kuwait
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Kuwait_Ottawa.JPG
I find this one kind of cool. Very arab.
Saudi Arabia
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Saudi_Arabia%2C_Ottawa.JPG
Same about this one!
Switzerland
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Swiss_Embassy_in_Ottawa.JPG
Positively Swiss :D

I think the British one stands less chance of being attacked. It looks more like a country club than an embassy

The German one will look nice when its finnished. :hmm:
The French one looks like a small multi-storey car park.
Quite like the Swiss one, minimalist chic.
And our embassy, well what can I say; classic style comes to mind :|\\

This is the Japanese embassy on picadilly opposite green park, overlooking buckingham palace. it's a great place

And the US embassy, although the square it joins on to is sheer old London class...well you can judge for yourself.

It's a trick: some of these embassies are so ugly they dissuade asylum seekers from choosing them = less hassle for the diplomats, giving them time to concentrate on important matters like being double-agents and throwing expensive parties.
