Think its more organised gangs making thousands of knock off DVD's and the like they are aiming for.

Doubt you'd get in much trouble for downloading a cd onto your iPod.

I work in downtown L.A. on skid row. Selling pirated music and movie DVDs is widespread along with cigarettes sans the taxes. I have even seen movies for sale that were not even out yet. Pirates are alive and well and living in downtown L.A.

Maybe, but I don't see it as Detrimental to Public Health and Safety. What people aren't seeing in the big picture here is that this statement is the same one they used to go after drug dealers. Now they use this same statement to take a persons home who is nothing more than a user, not a dealer. Scary times in LA, that is for sure.

Health and safety code violations in California are nasty. Get one while doing anything in a car and just try getting a driving job.

Street racing. take away your car.

Bad restuarant violating too many codes. Close it down.

Dealing drugs from the car could mean bye bye car.

I agree with you Subman the potential for abuse can be high for the severity of the crime. But, in LA the City has often bent over backwards for the Movie Industry.

Let us not forget The Mexican Peoples Republic of Cantaffordya, is home to the movie industry.

From the article:
The regulation was crafted at the urging of the Motion Picture Association of America and the Recording Industry Association of America.

That says it all right there. Remember we have stupid things here like Hollywood. As for downtown LA? Essh. Man.. its just bad over there. I stay away from the place. Crowded, cutthroat, and really dirty.

edit:

I can't resist, take your pic, its true either way:
