Koto-oshu is his name and he's a bulgarian. He won with one day to spare having beaten both Yokozuna (grand champions) already.

He really raised his game to a whole new level in this tournament and fully deserved to win the emperor's cup:up:

He doesn't look fat enough to be a grand champion though. His mama needs to fatten him up. Makes for better wedgies.

Time flies! I watched it back then too. i loved it! I've since met loads of people that remembered that tournament fondly, and yet they never chose to show another tournament.

here you go - if you are interested: match of the tournament, day 8, lightweight Mongolian, Ama, against young heavyweight Russian, Wakanoho. it's a beauty. Wakanoho apparently trashed his changing room after this.
