i been googling,, typing in searches on the different forums here, all to no avail,, i cant even find any mods, yet alone one for reduction of jap air. In morrowinds, there were 50000 + mods on 8 sites with a discription of what they did u could read before u downloaded it. A place like that would be nice. Is there one, and if so,, where

thanks ahead of time

You need to look a little harder is what DI is saying :yep: Check out RFB, Trigger Maru, RSRDC or OM in the Mods Forum (stickied) , they all deal with this.

The stock game enemy aircraft number is horrendous. I don't have 1.5 yet so I'm quite surprised to hear that it's still an issue with 1.5 as it was a common complaint with the original stock game. I guess that's another reason not to switch over to 1.5 just yet.
The Trigger Maru Overhaul mod definitely cuts the number down to a more realistic level. I believe the RSRD mod also tweaks the enemy aircraft situation.

Be warned however that the TMO aircraft can still spot you at periscope depth so crash dive like you mean it!! LOL

Hope this helps.

forgive me,, im a noob

i found tmo and fleetboat at mod forum, they said they make the game harder,, its already hard enough for me, hell, i die always,, i need to stop the jap airforce (3-5) planes at a time,, every 1 minute realtime. I can never return to base.

There are not too many aircraft in Silent Hunter IV fleet boat mode, I can tell you that for sure. In the Pacific, with a superior American submarine, you have all the advantage over any number of aircraft. Thanks to your radar you can ensure that not one will ever see you.

If you don't like the Japanese airplanes you DEFINITELY want to skip Operation Monsun. Getting out of Lorient you will find out what high air traffic is really all about. And you don't have decent radar. You have about a 50% chance of escaping the Bay of Biscay alive. It rocks!

I run 1.5 ( US side ) basically stock under a few texture mods and I'm in my third patrol ( May 1943 I think ) and although the aircraft are very heavy at times I've never had to shoot one down yet nor have they bombed/shot me either. The way to avoid the airplanes is what you call "Patience Grasshopper" and never go on surface more than 1024 TC and let your radar do the talking. You will have plenty of time to go to Periscope Depth when a bird is spotted ( as in stock they can't see you at PD ), telegraph your engines at 1 kt and then maybe kick up the TC to about 2858 ( or whatever that number ) and keep the scope down and that way you won't see any planes and your TC will stay at what you put it ( at this TC you will come to at least 8 TC automatically if your sonar detects a ship/ships ). I use the clock ( pocket watch ) all the time when in TC so as to know just a little before sunrise to PD and a little after sunset to surface. I run 1/3 telegraph on the surface and 1 kt at PD, this way you will save on the fuel and the batteries.

Make sure you have already set up your "Way-points" before even setting out on you voyage........and don't run a way-point through some Island either. :damn: A lot of the guys here can tell you stories about running aground...He He.

Now don't let me talk you into no Mods, heavens no. Go for any Mod that you wish for, I'm just telling how I do it. :yep:

OK, kick that sub of yours in the a.. and don't let those Japanese planes keep making you duck. besides your looking for a bigger piece of the pie and those planes are just the crust. :arrgh!:

it was bad, but after i sunk 2 fleet carriers they followed me for DAYS, 3-5 of em. id submurge, change dir 90 degrees, go till batterys most exausted. I could not run the time comp hardly at all. today all i did was try to reach my base. died twice. spent 8 hours trying. thats not my idea of a fun day, just diving, surfacing, speed 10 seconds, repete.

There are two things you can do to limit the pesky aircraft. Edit AirStrike.cfg to reduce the probability and the Japanese air base files in the Land Directory to reduce the number of planes at the bases.

Buddha95,

Upgrading to v1.5, and running TMO w/ the 1.5 Bravo update is fine. Or you can run RFB if you prefer, and have enough time and patience to learn how to do all the manual targeting. TMO is a good one to learn on. Read the readme file, or print it out and read it as you download the files. There are notes in there on how to tweak things that were done in the mod. Also, it's a good one to use to get familiar with the game, with more "realism", and is a good step up, before going to RFB if you so choose in the future.

Does it make it more realistic? Yes, but it also does things like reduce the ammount of planes you will encounter at one time, unless you are close to Jap task force with carrier(s) in it, and then of course you would have to contend with the TF's CAP who would do everything they could to stop you. But you can also dive deeper than the "rated" crush depth like the real boats did, without certain destruction, unless of course, you dive too deep. I had to take my Sargo boat down to 375ft. to finally shake off 4 escorts that hounded me for 10 hours. Ran silent, and reduced power to about 50 rpms, or 1/2 knot, and when I heard depth charges dropp in the hydrophones, I would go to flank sprrd for 15 to 30 seconds, and make a 45 to 90 degree turn, to evade them. That was conserve battery power.

So TMO, and RFB will increase realism, but will also reduce things like too many planes, and not having big enough fly swatter.

If you're not keen on the mods then you can always go submerged during the day at 1/3 or 2/3 which if you dive at approx 1100hr you can stay under until sundown (although sundown comes later and later as you go West) then stay on the surface and recharge batteries during the night. In stock game the planes don't come around in the dark. So basically with TC on you'll be 'porpoising' across the Pacific until you're within range of your target/patrol zone.
