Can't order silent running

Now this is odd. I've been able to do this before, and gotten the ear icon show up in the top right hand corner. But now with a new patrol, pressing 'z' doesn't make the crew rig for silent running. The order is acknowledged, but the crew doesn't actually enter this mode.
Pressing the button in the orders bar has the same effect.

Any ideas what might be going on here?

The only mods I'm running are TMO 1.5b, RSRDC + patch 7, my own mini-mod that maps the buttons to what I like (just my own customised version of the commands.cfg file, really. And yes, the silent running key is still mapped to default 'z'), and Small Radar Contacts Stage 1 (which reduces the size of blips on the radar scope only).

Update: I removed the Small Radar Contacts Stage 1 mod, and now I have my silent running back. Which sounds weird to me, and the mod only overwrites some *.dds files.

In TMO it only works submerged (as far as i know, but don't quote me)

You're not trying to hit key/icon/pop-up icon while not semi/fully sugmerged ?

I did this once but realised what it was

That's strange i use the Small Radar Contacts Stage 1 mod with TMO and have had no problems.

Just checked out the files in the mod, it only alters three .dds files so i cant see how this would effect silent running. got me puzzled :doh:.

Well, I reinstalled the mod and just tested the game, and now I can get silent running. Strange. I guess I'll just chalk it up to a g-glitch.

The time when I had a problem was when I was 200' deep trying to evade a couple of Jap DD's, which was when I discovered I had this slight problem. :D

Now it's back. I just don't understand it. I'll remove the radar mod and see what happens.

I have the exact same thing happening to me right now. while i have a load of escorts after me

1.5, RFB, RSRD, in an S class

only thing i can thing of is that I was messing about with the silent running order while surfacing. intercepting a convoy, having quick dips to listen. that's probably where things got screwed up. but I am very very reluctant to do a save/load while being depthcharged, obviously.

Same problem here without the radar mod. Running TMO. I fixed it by saving the game and exiting, rebooting the computer and restarting the game. Viola, silent running works again. Probably a temporary fix.

Same problem here. I'm convinced it is a 1.5 bug. It fixed itself but that may have been the exiting re-entering thing.
