how to open dds files

i was advised to open data/submarine and change the #s.
problem,,, these are all dds files and my comp says it dont know how to open them. i googled and all i got was photoshop types and they dont do it,, (its not a photo0.. what do i need and where from ???

IrfanView will open dds files, it's free, just google for it. I think you should check back with whoever told you change numbers and see if you got the story straight. They are pics.

DDS files contain graphics, just like JPEG, BMP etc. it's just another compression method to make the files smaller. What you want sounds more like an gameplay change. :hmm:

the file you are wanting to open is not a .DDS file it is a .UPC file, and it can be opened with a txt editor or word pad, I PM'ed you about it.
